2010 Lexus RX350 AWD First Impressions

So, I had the chance to "play" with the all new 2010 RX350 today. Here is what I think.
The inside is a nice update, key features added that should have been on the 07 and up models like the Smart Key System, Parking Sensors in the front and the rear, and an Aux input.
The new Navigation system control is easy to use by both the driver and passenger. You can now adjust your vehicle setting right thru the navigation screen eliminating the need to go to your dealer to adjust one thing or the other.
The few things I don't like:
Your spare tire is now in the cargo area, no longer under the vehicle in a cubbyhole. Some say that's better, but honestly, how many of us drive around with an empty cargo area? I'm not going to be happy when I have to unload my "things" to change a tire.
The second thing I don't like, is I didn't see a place for the cargo cover to be stored like in the past models when not in use. That space is now taken up with the spare tire.

These are just a few observation's I made today, and will tell more as I learn more.

The words LUXURY and ACURA have absolutely no business being in the same sentence. ChuckG37, I've got a question for you; Have you actually sat in the new Lexus RX? If not... I suggest that you do. The build quality in Acuras of late are light years behind the build quality of ANY Lexus. Seriously dude... it's not 1989 anymore. When was the last time you sat in a Lexus? You can't even compare Acura to Lexus because not only I, but more than half of the people on this website will tell you that Acura is definetley NOT luxury brand.

Oh yeah ChuckG37... "The interior is a nice upgrade? It honestly looks as fake, poser, wannabe and cheap as the last generations." ...can you list at least ONE car that has an interior that look similar to the latest generation RX? ...actually you should easily be able to name at least FIVE cars since you say the interior of the 2010 Lexus RX is a "cheap, fake, poser wannabe."

ChuckG37, you're like an amalgam of how a lot of the German car fans on this site used to be. Your thoughts are annoying and tired. You never have anything constructive to add to any topic. You're like EL34 except without the tongue-in-cheek. Put the act to rest. You know the RX350 has a fine interior. Maybe not the absolute best--and yes the dash design is questionable--but I'm sure its of high quality.

I actually think that ChuckG37 is an over the top German car fan trying to make Infiniti fans look stupid while at the same time trash Lexus.

The last I remember the Infiniti interiors are almost the same as the Nissan economy brand models (ie. Maxima) so why the heck would I pay that premium for an Infiniti badge? In Japan your G37 is still a Nissan and is nothing special. At least Lexus has managed to branch out.

Hell, the Genesis is more comfortable than an M35/45!. Do you know what they the Japanese do in the motherland with the Nissan Fuga?(M). This company takes the car and transform it into a Rolls Royce wannabe. Go take a look at that Top Gear episode when they talk about Mitsuoka.

I guess it's a matter of opinion, but I don't think the RL interior looks nearly as nice as the LS. The non-touchscreen Nav is also a big disappointment for the RL, and let's face it... the latest RL has been a disaster from day one. Both the RL and the LS of them use way too much plastic for flagship cars. I would gladly pay an extra couple thousand to have all the plastic replaced with better materials. This goes for all Japanese luxury cars, not just Lexus. The wood trim and leather Lexus uses are excellent... they should use much more of it.

But seriously I drove by a Lexus dealer to show a friend the Q5 I'm driving and he was really impressed.
The cargo cover fits nicely behind the rear seats, the B&O blows the Mark Levinson away, especially while playing a movie. The adjustable height of the rear tailgate with blinkers flashing at memorization of said height is a nice touch. The all LED taillights and DRL LED's are quite impressive, he said. Not counting the availability of the Audi Drive Select, or standard roof rails that detect the presence of the roof racks(also standard) and re-calibrate the ESP. A maximum load capacity of 220lbs on said racks and a max towing capacity of 4400lbs, all class leading and stuff that the RX don't have. Not counting quattro and adjustable hill descent assist speed up to 35mph.
Not to mention full integration of an i-pod or i-phone, ability to read and store music from a USB drive, a MP3 burn CD or a SD card. Or the ability to recall a number straight out of your phonebook versus creating a "tag" in your directory. Or live traffic info with traffic displayed on the screen in colors and also display of traffic conditions at next change of direction during route guidance.

Needless to say, he was a bit surprised. Like he said; "this is not your father's Audi".

so, as you all fight for your favorite brand and bash the competition, realize one thing; you are still living in the past, attached to misconceptions, bad perceptions and misinformation. You can read all you want in all the car magazines you want, you can hear what is being said here, there or anywhere. The fact remains that for the sake of profit, and there is nothing wrong with this, Japanese companies have found a way to fool the American consumers by selling them the same stuff with a different badge and more "gizmos" and fake or real wood. And don't give me the crap about Audi's being rebadged VW's. Audi existed long before VW and any japanese brand. And this only apply to the A3 anyway.

Therefore, if you like Lexus, and they deserve to a certain extend the success they enjoy, if you like BMW or whatever brand is your favorite, please, don't make a fool out of yourself. You don't need to bash the competition with fake arguments and invented facts. Instead, why don't you construct an argument based on facts or at least on pertinent informations orchestrated with intelligence and decency.

Is that too much to ask?

Or I could just go on and yell: "Go audi GO Audi, death to Lexus, death to Lexus!!!!"
Would that be better for you guys? :-)

The fuzz'll pull you over 'cause the geniuses over at Audi decided to fully integrate the tail-lamps into the boot! Silly eh? ;D Sure... the Q5 has seductive looks... but is it really that useful? I'm no die hard Lexus fan, but I'd take a jacked up Toyota any day over a shiny Volkswagen with a few extra bells ans whistles.

BTW if you were smart enough, you'd by a Lexus RX to help the economy. (there built in Cambridge, ON, Canada) Don't even get me wrong now... I'd buy an S4 over an IS-F in a heart beat... but the RX has been a leader in it's segment for almost a decade now. Kudos to Lexus 'cause I'm sure there gonna keep it up.

i am sure you made one or two good points, but your lay out sucks because of this website. i didn't read too much of what you said, but i'd like to argue that B&O wouldn't blows the Mark Levinson away. they perform quite differently depend on the type of music you like. in deed, if you prefer rock and rolls, B&O may have a better bass, but if you are into classic and jazz, Mark Levinson will give you a great mid to high range response. all in all, you do realize the navi-traffic stuff is pretty standard, the usb and ipod intergration..... is also available in cany ar, making phone call from your phone book is also... standard. I have been using those features like.4 years ago... enjoy your audi, but please don't fool yourself into thinking that those gadgets are only available to audi.

Well Jordanski, you should have read the part where I say"don't give me the crap about Audi's being rebadged VW's" So go get your stuff right. Oh and I guess you are amongst the ones stuck in the past. If it has been good for 10 years, it is going to be good for ever. People like you make me laugh. No idea of progress, stuck in the past with " woulda shoulda ". How buying a Japanese car built in Canada s going help the economy? How about just buying anything? What's the difference about buying an Audi? It supports workers at the ports of entry, the truckers that transport the vehicles to the dealers, the technician that PDI the cars, the porters that wash them and the salesforce that sales them. So your argument is just completely idiotic.
But you said it yourself, you didn't read "my essay", so typical of every kid out there. Go back back to your 360 and play some game. That's better than reading or learning anything.

Jordanski,
so I should put aside my personal preferences and choices in order to buy some expensive Toyota, or a Toyota or a Honda to support the NA economy. How about Ford building cars in Mexico, or in Canada? How about US companies just building cars here in the US? How about personal freedom of choice? How about we just completely and definitively shut down our borders and heavily fine any company that outsources or starts to build anything out of this Country? "sold in the US, built in the US." How would that work for you?
You completely missed my point. Oh and VW is building a plant in TN. You have a problem with that, would you rather that be in Canada? And Audi is considering building a compact there too. So should you want to enter in an argument with me you'd better engage the clutch in your brain before putting your mouth in gear. By buying anything in the US, I support the economy, no matter where it is built since even GM and Ford don't build all their cars in the US. And I live in the US of A and I really don't care that much about Canada.

"sold in the US, built in the US." I guess there'd be BARELY any MDXs, Civics, Camaros, 300Cs, Chargers, Flexes, Corollas, Matrixes, RXs, RAV-4s, Equinoxes, Torrents, XL-7s and Routans in the states... oh I could go on and on with the list... but I've got better things to do with my life... "sold in the US, built in the US" lmfao bahaha please don't give me that BS... chyeah... like OBAMA would do that! I'd love to know where the US is gonna get all the oil from to power their cars. I have driven the new RX350 and it is awsome! It has raised the bar... the reason the spare tire was moved was to make room for the all new double wishbone suspention
the old shock towers for the struts are gone! and it gives you a lot more room inside...
This RX has 5 inches mor leg room in the second row than the bmw X5
looks great in person...how many of you have used your spare tire? realy?
