Chrysler LLC receives three offers for selling Viper business
Since the announcement to sell the Viper operation last August as a step to avert the disaster of bankruptcy, Chrysler LLC has received no less than three offers for the purchase of the Dodge Viper sports car industry.

As have been reported many times, Chrysler has to come up with a restructuring plan on the 17th of February and show the US government that it is still viable over the long haul by the end of March 2009 so as to keep the federal loan amounting to $4 billion. The company does not expect the Viper will be sold by then, though. The factory at Detroit has about 110 employees under its wings.

The viper needs more volume to be successful as a standalone brand. It does without things like traction control and so it doesn't offer a percieved value for most middleaged males and so only diehard car buyers will fork over that kinda ching to be beaten up with a track car's ride that people drive on the street. Also, the interior is cramped and uses cheap plastics. I drove one recently and while I was smiling ear to ear with the acceleration, I couldn't justify owning one as a daily driver.

Viper will of course expand its focus like Saleen or Shelby or other tuners. First, a smaller coupe like the concept Venom would work. Then just work the Viper network and re-design that ugly interior. Tuning brings in money so that is another outlet. If Chevy can make the ZR1, then the Viper has a great chance.

If Viper will be a stand alone company, it will be similar business model with Lamborghini and Ferrari. Yikes!
