AutoExpress: Ferrari, you have been warned by the Audi R8 V10!

AutoExpress drove the R8 V10 and was blown away by this truly impressive car by awarding it the rare 5-star rating. The R8 V10 has no one area that undermines its appeal and driveability. What it lacks in steering and brake feel, the R8 V10 makes up for it with its daily driveability, comfort, accessible performance, 196 mp top speed, wailing exhaust note, and exotic looks. The R8 V10 has a character that is distinct from its competitors, but also from its V8 sibling. The R8 V10 improves upon the already incredible R8 V8 in every way possible! Fittingly, Ferrari, you have been warned!

The Gallardo LP-560 is way quicker than any F-430, the R8 V10 will probably be quicker also. All for a price of the 911 Turbo.

I have seen a few around, and although they look good and are relatively more affordable, I would still take a Ferrari any time.

It is NOT the price of a 997 Turbo. The regular R8 is easily $130K+. This one will probably be over $150K.

Or you can by two ferraris, two lamborghinis and two R8s and have them all in the stable if you are filthy rich.

+1 for the very good point. I'd even say it's all about the price and nothing more. Some people just don't take a better car, but the more expensive one. Just to make a statement to others they can afford it. Can they exploit limits of their new toy? It doesn't matter at all. Say a CEO of some successful company can afford the R8 V10. Then all those celebrities making even more he does couldn't be distinguished from him by bystanders on streets so they opt out for a much more pricey (and possibly technically worse) Lamborghini or Ferrari to keep the distance.

I can understand where you are coming from, but I think there is a serious flaw in your comment - I agree with your view on the GT-R (and share it), but Audi is far from being considered as being in the same position, especially since the MAKE the Lamborghini Gallardo. Yes - Audi makes the Lamborghini Gallardo in their GMBh factory and ships the unfinished product to Lamborghini. So you can see how they have been already in the same league a long time ago.

Right! A V-8 R8 for the missus and a V-10 R8 for mistress!

the new Audi R8 is really a hot shot. Maybe it might not take as much turning heads as a ferrari... but a V10?... now it may not be as quick as the ferrari... but watching the top gear episode on the most fuel efficient sports car, the ferrari happened to run out of gas first out of 5 other sports cars when they were testing which supercar could last the longest on 1 gallon of gas.... the Audi R8 happened to be able to last a whole lap exceeding the lamborghini, mercedes, porsche, and many other competitors

Agree with the sailor 100%. When guys are in a bar having a few drinks and topic that comes up is what sportscar do you drive, its just not the same as "I have a Lamborghini" as "I drive an Audi". Practicalitywise, I'd pick an Audi simply because its cheaper to obtain and probably easier to use everyday. Of course its a different story if I'm filthy rich.

If I was filthy rich, honestly, there wouldn't be a better choice than an R8 for a daily driver, in either flavor. It is as comfortable as an A4 when it wants to be but can easily keep up with a Porsche through the twisties. I don't know how Audi did it, but the Gallardo never got this kind of praise. It is truly an incredible chassis. A Ferrari or two might be nice to have on the side but I think an R8 V10 gives you all that and more.

Yet for some reason they seem to fly of the shelves despite being the same price as an equivalant Porsche.

You don't seem to be much of a badgewhore if you can't understand that Audi is up in the same level as the others already...

I don't understand why nobody has ever said this about the Gallardo. You could say how Audi is not Ferrari, etc etc, but when the Lambos are compared to the Ferraris, they always lose. The R8 V10 is obviously the superior vehicle. That means, in a nutshell, the only superior performance car you can buy--and this is arguable--is a... Ferrari.
