AMG introducing stop-start and direct-injection technology in 2010
Horsepower is no longer the present focus of AMG, making efficiency the new standard for performance. AMG is presently developing a whole new lineup of diesel versions with ultra-lightweight materials and advance construction processes including, and hybrid systems, of course. By 2010, according to AutoTelegraaf, AMG will be introducing stop-start and direct-injection technology throughout its range.

AMG’s stop-start will work much in the same way as the regular system where the engine is powered down at full stop and revived when the brake pedal is released or the accelerator is activated. On the other hand, the direct injection system will be patterned after the second generation found in the C350 CGI BlueEFFICIENCY version of Mercedes-Benz.

Even if fuel economy isn't their number one priority, this is still a beneficial system to have onboard. Even an AMG owner might find it useful, because no matter what you think these people find the small gains in fuel economy "useful".

Guys, I know seems stupid.... but the vehicles you want to add these little bells & whistles to are the vehicles that get the worst mileage. GM gets destroyed by liberal commentators on TV about having hybrid SUVs.. but the big, thirsty SUV is where it makes the most sense. In my personal little opinion, stop-start, cylinder de-ac, direct injection and cam phasing/lift tricks are the best short term boost to economy & performance, I am glad to see more manufacturers doing REASONABLE and COST EFFECTIVE things to improve economy & performance. Big3 do these things and people are upset that its not a Prius. Remember, the difference between 10mpg & 13mpg is MASSIVE compared to 40mpg & 43mpg. Any contractor/landscaper/farmer will tell you this. (Oh how I wish we could all meet to talk away from this forum... so much to say.. so little I can say without saying "too much").

By the way mike... too bad you don't have the LED tail lights, they look awesome. You still could probably buy aftermarket ones... I put LED bulbs in my daily driver and as an admitted nerd, I love em (especially the couple times my forgetful self forgot the headlights on.... and since theres tiny current draw from LEDs... I was just fine. hheheh).
