What Is The Most You Ever Paid For A Car, And Was It A Good Deal?
With auto sales at their lowest levels in 26 years, getting a good deal should be a breeze. But even with deep discounts and generous incentives, what one dealer will charge - compared to another - would still surprise you.

Since July, the typical price variation on the same make and model of car between dealerships has increased substantially, according to research by the automotive Web site Edmunds.com. Back in July, prices varied from dealer to dealer by about 17.4% on average. In December, average variability had increased to about 28%.

The recent average price paid for a BMW 3-series at one dealership was $40,924, according to Edmunds.com. At another, it was $47,459. That's a 16% price difference. For the Honda Accord, prices averaged between $22,036 and $28,966, a 31% difference. And on an Audi A6, average prices ranged from $39,472 to $53,638, for a difference of 35%.

I don't buy new cars but the most I ever spent on a car was $19500 for a 2 year old 2005 GTO with 33000 miles on it. I still love the car.

Was in Denmark last Summer, I think a new Camry runs about 80k. They tax the bejeezus out of cars, as they have no car industry.

Then again, they have great roads, schools, trains, and health care........and a bit of oil.

I paid just under $39k for my '04 S4 in 2005 with 10k miles on it. I priced out a new one with the same options and it was coming out to around $54k. A year and 10k miles for $15k was well worth the savings. I may do a repeat purchase in 2010 with the new S4.

At the time, I was also looking at the E46 M3 that was going for around $45k for similar mileage.

Well heck if this is going to be the post where agents fix problems on the site...how about fixing that problem with the left side column of everything below "Submit An Article" from encroaching on the article you are trying to read.

You guys need to move it about a 1 in. to the left.

I paid ~60k for my 2004 Lexus LS430, which I just made the last payment on this month. It's one of the few luxury items I have purchased for myself, and although I don't plan to necessarily spend as much money on my next car purchase (whenever that may be), I consider it to have been a worthwhile purchase. I bought it for around 1000 over invoice at the time, which I considered reasonable for a higher end in-demand luxury car.

I to dont buy new cars with the exception of the most recent purchase I got my 2008 CX9 GT for 31719. Thats 10 grand under sticker. Didnt even bother to haggle. This took the bite out of resale value, which is on the low side however since I dont trade in cars it doesnt matter.

Paid $184,230 for my f430 about a year ago. Might seem like a lot, but it's worth every penny.

I got one of them run of the mill Veyron's with my chump change...hah! Well in the real World I bought a Black on Black 2005 997 Carrera S new with Ceramic Brakes, loaded with Chrono timer, and EVO SC. Won't do that again anytime soon.

$28,500 for a used/loaded 2005 CLK500 coupe. But I always use a tradein and money down to get me below $19k before I enter a financing agreement. I can't wait to have this POS Camry paid off in the next 3 years. I'll never buy Japanese again unless it's some turbo ricer like the STI or EVO. My next purchase will probably be another V8 Mercedes since I'm having a ton of fun with the CLK. A 2007 CL550 will probably be right in my price range by the end of 2011; maybe even a 2008 model.

Paid $41,500 for a fully loaded Nissan Armada SE 4x4 in 2006. That's the most I have ever financed a car for, I leased a 2004 BMW 745Li in 2004 and the MSRP was $72,100. The Armada I now own and I turned in the 745 last year. Both were worth every penny, I had very few issues with the BMW and the Armada has been absolutely flawless, nothing but standard maintenance so far.

In 03 I paid $23,500 cash for a 98 Landcruiser w/56k mi on it. Man that thing was love at first sight for my wife and I. My kids 16 and 12 at that time and they still wish I would have kept it because it made such an impact on them, especially during vaction time. It was two tone black/grey w/whisper gray leather interior w/wood trim. The 4.7 V8 was creamy smooth and powerful for such a heavy luxury suv. That thing will last for ever. Just think how awesome the new Landcruiser is with that 5.7 V8 in it. "Man Toyota is a Force to contend with".

A whisker under $50K for a to-order 2001 Boxster. Never again (not the Boxster, but buying new), six years later I bought my current 2004 Boxster S used with 18 months and under 10K on the odometer...for about 40% less than invoice.

I guess I will buy new again, but not until I have a LOT more money to throw away. And definitely Euro delivery. Hmmm. 330D is looking good...

My '06 911 Carrera S was $93K and change out the door, the '08 M3 was a few pennies shy of $68k.

I am done with expensive cars though, I think my next car is going to be a Honda Fit or something like that.

The way I look at it. "The most I ever paid for a car" isnt about how much total cost, it's about how much could I afford when I made the purchase. I'm in a different position in life now, where the cost of a car really doesn't impact me as much. Many years ago, I paid $23K for a 1969 300SEL 6.3. That was a bigger cost than I could afford at the time and I sold the car about 6 months later for the money. Was it worth it? The car was worth every penny, but could I afford it at the time? Not at all.
