VW Releases Sketch Of First US Produced Mid-sized Sedan
On Thursday, Volkswagen's North American arm released the first-ever teaser sketch of its forthcoming mid-size sedan codenamed NMS that will be manufactured at the company's first U.S. production facility in more than 20 years, located in Chattanooga, Tennessee.

The sketch reveals that the yet to be named saloon will be more 'wedgy' and squared-off than Volkswagen's current proposals with the front-end design bringing to mind the fascia of the German automaker's latest concept car, the BlueSport Roadster.

Looks like something that should be in the chrysler/dodge lineup

Actually 0 to 60's statement is quite funny, not that he's laughing at gay people. It's just that VW has courted many gay people and I know there are a lot of gay people that drive VWs, nothing wrong with that. This design kind of looks like a US muscle car of yesteryear. So, gay muscle car is kind of funny seeing that this comes from VW. I think I am beginning to understand you...

Say hello to the new A8.

This car has nothing to do with the new A8. Volkswagen once tried to make a luxury barge, the Pheaton and they failed.

The new A8 will look like sportback concept.

The Phaeton wasn't successful in North America, but here in Europe it had a little success story of its own.

Sales figures for 2007 in the EU are as follows:

1. Mercedes S 21744
2. Audi A8 10225
3. BMW 7 8529
4. Volkswagen Phaeton 3874
5. Jaguar XJ 3551
6. Lexus LS 2383
7. Maserati Quattroporte 1608

So yes, they sold some. In my opinion, buying a Pheaton made sense mostly if you wanted to be original and decrease the risk of your luxobarge car being stolen. Otherwise, an A8 was rather a better pick. Mostly it was the same car by the way.

American styling for an American built VW, I like this idea.

Yes,
When you give VW a billion dollars to build a factory in the US, the do just what Honda (American market-only Accord) and Toyota (US only Camry and Avalon) and build a large, relatively simple sedan.
Plus, since you don't have health care to cover, you can probably up the trim a bit, give the slave jobs to neo-colonials, and export the good jobs back home.

Great business model.

I think VW blew a good thing, when they had the previous Jetta and Passat. Both cars were perceived as German, more exclusive alternatives to the common Civics and Camrys. Then the cars went up in size and price, and compete in different segments then they did before and are less successful. My hunch is that the current models are just not profitable at the price points they sell at here in the US, so now VW is trying to go head to head with the Camry and Accord with this new car. Unless they really hit a home run in terms of design, value and (perceived) reliability, I think this is misguided. What will the next gen Jetta and passats be? Will they even sell them here? Perhaps just the CC will be above this new car, but will the next Jetta fit in below? As for the sketch, nice looking, but it could be anything if you remove the VW badge. I have low expectations on this one. I hope I'm wrong.

the Euro/Dollar has hurt VW, hence being built in the US. And it will be closer to dimensions of Camry/Accord unlike the current Passat which is too small.

I this phase two of the VW/Chrysler collaboration that started with the Caravan/Routan? It sure seems like it from a design perspective..
