Audi is Western Europe's top selling premium brand for January

Audi has managed to become the best selling premium brand in Western Europe for the month of January. Despite a global financial crisis that has left American auto manufacturers on the brink of collapse and the German auto manufacturers reeling with global sales down over 20% each for the month of January, Audi has managed to claw away marketshare from its two larger German rivals, BMW and Mercedes-Benz.

Audi's marketshare increased from 3.9% to 5.1% in the Western European market. It was reported right here on Autospies that Audi's A4 has managed to outsell BMW's 3-series in its home market of Germany for January 2009 as well.

Audi is poised to remain on the offensive launching 6 new models in the first half of 2009.

I am sure those A3, and A4s are flying off the shelf there. The A1 will cement it for them.

Is this another one of your spins to make Audi look bad? Maybe you should come over to Europe and see for yourself why our luxury manufacturers make such cars in the first place instead of posting your gloating and spiteful posts all over this board.

I didn't know the A1 was for sale yet? Because you know it isn't! So stop spinning like Audi is only selling small cars. The A4 and A6 are top sellers in Europe. Not to mention the A5 is selling extremely well as is the newly released Q5. So it is the entire Audi line that is doing well. And the A8 is holding its own quite nicely. Again comments of the ill informed and david999 you are Lexus PR mouth piece anyway, so who cares what you think.

Driving a viper and a Durango (keep it the US (if possible) and I have had many non-US cars), never a jap car. I took my wife's car searching with our 02 S500-AMG package to get her a new car. We drove all the middle of the road luxury vehicles. Didn't even consider MB having had 4 of them (myself, parents and siblings. My brother in law has a SLK65 which I smoked; it looks like an out of portion tinker toy. Any case the 745 and A8 was no match. Never gave Audi a thought before but after driving it and comparing it I was basically sold.
Living in Sarasota just about everyone <$> had a MB and most retired gas station owners have a vette. Don't know about anyone else but I want something that isn't as common as a titty dancer with silicon tits.
The Audi stood out and my wife liked the way it rode. Tyranny is so smooth. I would get a BMW before a MB, my daughter has a 06 conv. 3 series (smallest engine), don't know what it is but it’s slow and that’s why I opted for that model. It isn't a slug but my Durango almost stays with it.
Another thing. The new vette is a useless vehicle. What the freak is that lame thing on the hood. I think the 66-67? GTO with the tach on the hood was just about as lame.

honda owners with the trash can exhausts seem to be the majority on this site so I'm wasting my breath.

Slammer
Audi while looking like everything else smokes the competition

BMW needs to beef up on their advertising. They need to put their cars into movies! Stop this cutting cost strategy, it's hurting the brand! But just to metion that Western Germany is only one small part of the world. You still need to look at America and China. In china, BMW's growth is higher than Audi.

As for the A4, I don't really know why someone would choose an A4 over the 3 Series. I've driven it and it is not pleasing. BMW 3 drives the best. The interior quality is also inferior(in my opinion) to the 3 Series. The steering and driving feel of the A4 is just off BMW's standards. The BMW 3 is just so solid and perfect. In terms of design, I actually like the 3 more than the A4, A4 is too stretched and flabby for my liking. As for the package, BMW 3 is my ideal in this market segment. Maybe it's because Audi A4 is actually cheaper than the 3 Series, o top of that, they are running crazy specials at most Audi dealerships. But one thing I must admit: The running costs of the 3 Series is incredibly more expensive than the A4 - mostly because of the ridiculous Run Flat tyres that costs on average 60% (depending on size) more than a normal tyre despite having a life span of half (on average) as compared to a normal tyre. BMW, you have yourself to blame for this... wake up. GIVE YOUR CUSTOEMRS A CHOICE (FOR NORMAL TYRE WITH A BISCUIT TOOL SET) AND BEEF UP YOUR MARKETING, MORE CONCEPT CARS TO SPICE UP YOUTH SUPPORT BECAUSE THEY ARE YOUR FUTURE CUSTOMERS. If all teens have an R8 on their bedroom walls, guess what they will buy when they are out of university in a few years' time!
