Infiniti M50 Coupe to take on 6-Series and E-Class Coupe?
BMW already has the 6-Series and Mercedes-Benz has just shown the new E-Class coupe. If the rumors are true, Infiniti's Essence concept will show Infiniti's interpretation of a large luxurious coupe with a V8 engine. Infiniti has filled out its G range with a sedan, coupe, and upcoming convertible. It only makes sense that the 3rd generation Infiniti M include a coupe along with the sedan to compete with the two top German marks. BMW only sold 304 6-Series in January 2009 while Mercedes-Benz sold 601 CLK's during the same time period in the United States. Considering this is such a small market, is there really room for an Infiniti M37/M50 coupe? Or, could it be a great opportunity to cash in on a segment, in which there are some questionably styled products.

I hope Infiniti builds an M50 coupe. It will definitely help bring their brand even more upmarket.

6 series is a 2 seater + 2 small seats for kids. Also is too heavy for a coupe, in fact it is doing very bad on sales. In the other hand the CLK or new E is a coupe for 4 real adults, and it is very likely that will be lighter than the 6 or around the same weight with superior performance, sadly also with a higher price...M50 will heat up this segment...Good for us.....

actually the 6 series has been a sales success for BMW, while it isnt the best looking BMW by far it is certainly not a failure. The thing with the new CLK err E class coupe, is that it is based on the c class regardless of its name and if Mercedes cant find a way to make it lighter than the 6 series being based on the current generation 5 and previous generation 7 series there is clearly something wrong, the 6 series is suppose to be a large grand tourer the CLK has for years been about the size of the 3 series coupe. Unless they intend on making its dimensions alot larger than what they are now it will continue to be a 3 series sized car, for e class money.

LBQ, I was like hoping you could like use the word like more in your posts.

An M coupe could be good looking. I hope they build it

I miss the true luxo-coupes like the original Lexus SC and Acura Legend.

Infiniti has the ability to make something truly nice here.

My fingers are crossed.

I have also always like the SC400 and the Legend coupes for some reason.
I think M50 is going to be great for this segment! It will put some pressure on the German brands.

This is a very good idea, an M50 coupe would be great for Infiniti. I still hope that they give Infiniti a version of the 370Z.

Last time I heard, the G37 is Infiniti's 370Z (same engine/platform but with the 2 extra seats). I don't see Infiniti making a 2-seater if that's what you mean.

I hope they don't do it. Coupes just don't sell enough, and this is important in this economic climate. The teaser definitely looks like a coupe, but they would be much better off with a 4-door coupe performance car.

the IS-F is far from slow in a straight line, it's quicker than the E550 for sure. And naming doesn't matter. It's not the name but the content that matters. But you didn't even get your example right. Does Mercedes Benz sell a C550 (same class as IS). No, it doesn't. MB did make C55 AMGs, exactly what Lexus did.

DogLbDogLb - 2/22/2009 9:58:55 PM

Kaner, check your facts. As Chewy points out, the IS-F is a competitor to the C63 AMG. Just using Road & Track as an example, the 0-60 times of these 2 cars is about same (C63 AND E63 are .1 seconds faster). So to say an E550 is faster would be a bad presumption - especially since they are not the same class of car.

As far as this article is concerned, I hope they make a M50 coupe (and even an IS-F coupe). Both would be on my shopping list if puttogethe properly.

i love bmw, but i would take an S5 over a 650, or clk. as for an infiniti m50 coupe, bring it !!! more competition only helps us buyers..
