This is the first time I've seen them use the 'ZMP' code...I wonder how this is different from the 'ZHP' option on the e46.

Okay...so I obviously didn't search hard enough but what I couldn't believe was that for all that money there wasn't any performance upgrade! On the e46 High Performance package at least for the same money you got a 6-speed manual upgrade, 3.07 dif, and 10 more horses an I think 7 more lb-ft of torque...I forgot to mention tighter damping rates on the suspension...this M package only gives you ...

* M door sills
* M footrest
* M gearshift lever
* M steering wheel
* M wheels
* Available with an M exterior color
* Anthracite Headliner
* Aerodynamic package
* LeMans Blue Paint available

not sure about US, but the M package in Europe and australia includes M sports suspension as well, which is firmer and lower.

There is no substitute for a true "M" car. This package will only appeal to posers which I imagine are in great supply.

Teknik: You are such a boob.

I love my M5....because it's a GREAT car, not because it's a BMW.

I have a great car to drive to work and if you come to Englishtown raceway on March 21, I will pit my 4 door poser mobile against anything you have(or borrow) :-p

On a 1series, the M Sport is only $200 more than the regular Sport package to get the Anthracite headliner and different wheels. On the others, I have to guess that the big price is for the aerodynamic package which has always been really expensive on the 5 series.

L-O-S-E-R! Does nothing but dilute the true M-car brand. Now every cheerleader will be running around telling everyone that she got an "M3" for her high school graduation just because it has different wheels and a bolt on aero package. What's next? How about the "Instant M"! BMW will offer an "M-Upgrade" where an owner brings in his existing standard model and has everything installed in about 30 mins! And no, I am not a BMW hater - I have two of them (325i and X5). Its just that the M-cars are true icons of performance and I hate to see that reputation diminished.
