Baby McLaren guns for Porsche!
Take a look at the British supercar that’s got the Audi R8 and Porsche 911 in its sights! This striking machine is an all-new entry-level ‘baby’ model from Formula One racing team McLaren – and it will take the company into uncharted territory, rivalling established brands with a price tag of around £80,000.

The sports car is a key part of McLaren boss Ron Dennis’ plans to expand McLaren Automotive – the division responsible for the Mercedes SLR McLaren and original F1 road car – into a volume producer.

It does favor the Gallardo and the F430. But if they can price it around the R8 and 911 they really might have a winner here.

Looks great, would kill any Porsche and R8 on the race track i bet. They should scrap the idea of using a Mercedes engine, just 450bhp from a 6.2 litre V8, that's lame these days, Jaguar's new direct injection 5.0 V8 produces 510bhp, and they tuned it to 600hp for Bonneville, if they asked jag nicely, i'm sure they would do them a deal!!! Don't even think Mercedes use direct injection yet aswell?

"...but come on why do they call it the __63 if its only a 6.2, thats just weird."

Two reasons. First, German law mandates all cars' advertised displacements to be rounded UP to the next 100cc, meaning that 6208CC be advertised as 6300CC. Second, because it pays homage to the 300SEL 6.3.

ubercool: fyi, the 6.2 reach 525 Hp just with natural aspiration, the SL63, S63, CL63 and E63 use the same engine tuned to reach more HP, and it is lighter than the weak 4.0 on M3. They already know those great engines and thats why they chose it. Beside that the engine of the SLR reach 617HP supercharged and it is smaller than the 6.2, so imagine if they stack turbos or supercharger to that engine....Please do your homework before open your mouth.

It's kind of difficult to take aim at a manufacturer that never sits still, not to mention one with the resources Porsche now has.
