Opel Ampera: European Chevy Volt Scooped Undisguised!
Carscoop's spy photographers have done it again, this time by capturing the Opel Ampera study totally undisguised at one of the firm's German centers. Due to be revealed for the first time in public at next month's Geneva Motor Show, the Ampera is nothing more, nothing less, than a Chevy Volt with a new fascia and a subtly redesigned rear-end. Opel's version of GM's extended-range electric vehicle is scheduled to go on sale in Europe during the second half of 2011, or about a year after the Volt hits Chevy's North American outlets.

The most visible styling changes on the Ampera concern the EV's front-end design which is inspired from Opel's latest concept cars like the GTC. It features a set of Civic-like headlamps with vertical air ducts, a thinner grille and a new bumper.

At the rear-end, aside from the new bumper, Opel's design team restyled the tail lamps and added a horizontal chrome bar while they also painted the lower part of the fifth door in the same color as the rest of the car -as opposed to the Volt's blacked out panel.

Good lord man. I really don't think that was meant to be a negative comment. Lasty gen acuras were nicely styled. Can't say that too well about the current gen though.

Whoa dude, wasn't implying that it was a bad move. On the contrary, I think it looks great. My comment was more of a slam on Acura than anything else.

Please excuse Crappy, he is so insecure and defensive that any hint of negativity towards anything American will send him overboard. He cannot understand sometimes what people post (no matter how obvious it is), nor can we always understand what he writes (due to lack of thought when he writes, e.g. yesterday's comments). Please keep this in mind the next time he displays this behavior.

That being said, the side profile and back are nice. The only thing I would modify is the front. Look forward to the Volt's launch.

I think the Volt looks good too but I think I would prefer this styling a little more. And it does kinda look like an Acura up front.

Please excuse Crappy, he is all over the place as usual. He has also not figured out yet how to properly reply to a given comment.

Everyone has a right to personal preference but no reason to be uncivilized...hah! I personally think the latest Acuras are fugly but Acura designed some nice looking cars in its history.

If they keep the price close to the same as what they are going to charge for the volt, then these are going to sell like hotcakes in Europe.

Not even close. There are so many vehicles available in Europe that are nearly as efficient and will cost considerable less. With the price alone the car will be in a high insurance group compared to what its competing against. They will have a harder time selling it in Europe than in the states.

Regardless of how this volt looks like for any market, it still has to prove itself in terms of reliability, performance, technological advances, & the price you pay for, in the real world.

Both Volt and Ampera (great electric car names btw) are much better looking than anything coming from the mainstream automakers in my opinion. Reliability and quality has yet to be realized but I am sure they will be good in those categories or else!!! Best looking electric car in still the Tesla and their new 4 door looks good too.

Can't wait to get a Volt and its been awhile since I looked foward to any car besides a Porsche.

I like the look of volt but the rush to bring it to market will probably be its downfall hope not for GM sake.Dont think I wouldtake over German diesel car.
