Baby Cadillac coming early next decade
According to Mark McNabb, vice president of Cadillac-Hummer-Saab sales channel, the new Cadillac CTS family shows what Cadillac wants to do with its car line - offer more derivatives of each model.

“Look at a CTS and I think you can start understanding where we are going. Look at a CTS [sedan], CTS wagon, CTS coupe — obviously, derivatives off of a platform make a lot of sense from a financial perspective,” McNabb told Automotive News.

Does it really take that long to make a shorter ruler?

Bearing in mind that Cadillac doesn't merely rebadge an existing GM model, but it really does a great job engineering for itself what it needs. Does Cadillac need a smaller vehicle at this time? Well, as long as it's not front drive, I say go for it. If there has to be a smallish engine, make it a small V6 and not an I4 (Cimarron, fellas, Cimarron!) Make available a V6 of around 2.0L (perhaps with a light pressure turbo??) and another 2.8 and call it a day. I would love to see the 2.0L turbo Ecotec I4 in a decent rear drive sedan, but let's be honest, Cadillac is a luxury brand after all. Can't lose focus no matter what the CTS-V says it can do.

agreed, the CTS coupe's windowline is way too tall. It doesn't look good, it would look MUCH better if the rear of the windowline were lowered by 1.5 inch, thus decreasing the slope of the line and looking many times better.

So basically, McNabb is saying that GM-Cadillac finally understands why BMW and Porsche have been so financially successful in recent years...developing multiple versions of one model from a single platform. Who'd think up something so simple?

I think as GM-Cadillac begins to develop models and lineups in a more focused way, they're beginning to understand why smaller, more prestigious brands (say BMW) have been so successful. And it's making more sense now that they have to really think independently about the separate vehicle divisions when considering their model futures.
