2010 Jaguar XFR vs. The Competition

2010 Jaguar XFR vs. The Competition
The renaissance of Jaguar really began with the introduction of the XF sedan. It was the first Jaguar model in, well a long time, that deserved serious consideration from luxury sport sedan buyers and the first that could hold its own against rivals from BMW, Mercedes-Benz and Audi. The second salvo came at this year's Detroit Auto Show where Jaguar unveiled the XFR. Powered by a supercharged, direct-inject version of Jaguar's 5.0L V8 that produces 510 horsepower, the XFR was specifically designed to stare down the BMW M5 and Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG.

Jaguar North America has just announced pricing for the 2010 model XF, and the XFR model rings at $80,000 even. That's a few thousand less than both the M5 and E63 AMG, and the XFR produces more power than both. The Audi S6, meanwhile, is less expensive than all three, but also significantly less powerful with just 435 hp (the 580-hp RS6 isn't sold in the U.S.). Ah, but then there's the Cadillac CTS-V, which is faster than them all (even the RS6), more powerful and the least expensive. We wish the XFR good luck. It's going to need it in this segment.

$80,000 seems awfully high for the XF-R in my opinion. For a few grand more, I would take the E63 or M5 any day.

Jag has put out some much improved (and needed) product recently with the XK and XF. However, I still doubt that in ten years time Jaguar will still be in the U.S. and selling cars.

$80k is a bargain, it's the fastest and most luxuriest motor in this class, and it's easily the finest looking sedan out there period.

Staat- Did someone hit you with a BMW when you were young? No need for baseless attacks on a car you probably have never even sat in.

you seem to forget that the XF-R is fully loaded at 80K the M starts at 85K and once you ad the options to bring it up to the XF-R its 97K

tek- I can assume your basing this on absolutely nothing, but I'll ask anyways - what makes you think that XFR is better than the E63, RS6 or M5 when it has barely been reviewed?

Looks fantastic, and apparently drives fantastic as well. One gripe from the pictures: needs a new steering wheel. Not sporty enough.

I think its a decent price for a performance Sedan. I've test driven one and one step the accelarator...man...what a response. The Supercharged one got Balls...imagine when the XF-R comes out.

If I were in the market for an expensive sedan, I think I like the XFR enough to go straight to a Jag dealership and pick it without even bothering to test drive the competition. But then again, I might be biased!

I'll tell you what, I've never been much of a jag fan, but I saw one of these on the road over the weekend with Manufacturer plates and it was absolutely beautiful. It was a bright blue color and just caught my eye. Personally I think all the new Jag models styling is quite nice. I'm not sure how they drive as I've never had the pleasure, but they've got it going on in the styling department. Easily some of the best looking cars on the road right now.
