BMW working on 3-Series GT, Progressive Activity Coupe
The BMW Concept 5-Series Gran Trusimo will be the star at the Munich automaker’s 2009 Geneva Motor Show display next week. Rumor has it that BMW is working on a Concept 3-Series Gran Turismo for the 2009 Frankfurt Motor Show in Sept.

The car is internally known as the V3 or Progressive Activity Coupe - meaning instead of the 5-Series GT which is a Progressive Activity Sedan with four-doors, the V3 will have only two doors. The car will be pitched to customers looking for a smaller version of the 5-Series GT. It is even reported that the 3-Series GT will be joined by a...

I have to agree with you on this one. These car (designs) are to attract the older automobile consumer, which of course BMW never really catered too in the first place.

I've been mourning the death of BMW's brand cache since the introduction of the X6, maybe even the X5. It's sad to see once such a great company with top-notch prestige now being diluted to nothingness.

I don't think we need a BMW hatchback.

I agree.....these cars just look like a sales disaster waiting to happen. Maybe it'll look better in person, at least I hope so.

"BMW working on 3-Series GT, Progressive Activity Coupe" --- WHY?

Maybe I'm just getting old, or nostalgic, but I really miss when BMW was a lower volume, much more exclusive automaker that really catered to a very specific customer, and only had a very limited range - the small car (2002/3 Series) midsize car (5 Series), larger sedan (Bavaria/7 Series) and GT coupe (6 Series). That was it. I understand the need for profits and growth (to satisfy shareholders once you're not private anymore), but it's really gotten out of hand. The soul is just about gone, if not already.

Drive a 135i and your faith will be restored.

The 1 Series is the best of all the new models they've introduced lately. It's all these other superfluous models that I don't see the need for. And I suppose I'm being hypocritical because I have an X5. What are the odds that the next 1 Series will have a 4 door sedan, at least for the US market?

Why is the corret question. May they did a market research and they discover that in 1 or 2 years most of the population will be old people. Anyway I´m not able to understand what reasoning is pushing them to create Activity cars for every series. I hope they do not have the same Idea for 6 or 7. Instead of that they should create M cars for almos each series as MB does with AMG. I they take a bad decision, that could cost them the extintion....they shouldn´t be experimenting right now.

I like it. I've had the 5gt as my desktop for more than a week now. Being a huge bmw fan and owning one myself, I wanted to see if this would "grow" on me. And I must say it has. Design-wise and concept (big butt; the hatchback). It's good they're being innovative. On the plus side, if it fails it would just make the next 5 or 3 series even nicer.

When's the last time an old person gave a d**n about a hatchback? That demographic is about as big as the black american/pickup truck demographic.

The above comment is not intended to be racist. If you misinterpret it as such, you need anger management.

Looks like they took the X6 slammed the roof with a whale and out came this one.
