Geneva Preview: Bmw X3 xDrive20d Emergency Rescue Vehicle
Presented at the Geneva Motor Show, the BMW X3 medical emergency vehicle which generates 130kW (177bhp), makes it a natural alternative for fast rescue operations in virtually any location.

BMW has a long experience with special-purpose vehicles and this new creation was specifically designed for medical rescue purposes. It comes with a plain white exterior finish contrasted by red film and red stripes located on the sides and trunk cover with double stripes on the hood to provide visuals even from afar. Visibility is further enhanced with contour markings with reflective gaps on the sides and the bottom of the trunk cover. Just like any other emergency rescue transport, it comes with an alarm system that is mounted on the roof, with blue light, electronic siren and the word NOTARZT (‘emergency doctor’) displayed through LED lights.

This must be old news, I've been seeing these all over Munich for weeks now. Saw one today parked right outside my apartment.

Don't you call apartments flats in Germany just like in parts of the British Empire ?

I'm German, not American. We actually call apartments "Wohnung" or "Etagenwohnung".

177bhp fast? am I missing something? That sounds under powered to me. Someone enlighten me as to why everyone is calling this fast.

Because the X3 2.0d is fast, ok? Very simple.

What's up with people bitching about 177-hp cars being "slow" or even worse, 280-hp cars are considered "slow" these days. Honestly, this type of thinking bothers me.

This X3 2.0d has first of all fluid and quick acceleration, that's fast. Second, it has a very high top speed, that's also fast. It's fast. Live with that, Truckman.

Sailor, Wimmer,

You can just blame the American magazines for the ridiculous expectations of speed and acceleration. If it takes longer than 6 seconds to get to 60, it's slow. I think I just read that .3 seconds longer to 60 than its competitor was an "eternity". It wasn't that long ago that anything under 8 seconds was fast, and I mean Ferarri territory. My 2004 325ix has about 181 hp and 175 ft lbs of torque, and it is plenty fast....maybe not lightening fast, but it's perfectly suited to the car. Now you get that in a 4 cyl Camry and people cry. Why does anyone need a 280 hp Honda Accord? Maybe today's engines are more efficient than ever, but I can't help but wonder if they were tuned for lower hp, would we see better mileage?
