New Porsche Cayenne Hybrid Promises Crusing At 85 MPH On Battery Alone
Porsches are known for the sound of their rippling horsepower under the hood, but the company's new gas-saving hybrid actually runs on batteries more than half the time -- leaving the driver with little more than the sound of the wheels on the road.

Using a parallel full hybrid design developed with Volkswagen and Audi engineers, the prototype Cayenne S Hybrid relies on a combination of internal combustion and electric power to reduce C02 emissions and boost mileage from 14 mpg in the city to 24 mpg.

That's still only half what the Toyota Prius hybrid gets, but then again, it's an SUV. The company wants to improve mileage further by the time the Cayenne S Hybrid hits the market in 2010.

Porsche also promises that the Cayenne is ugly.

Easy fella, it's just my opinion. Good for them if they sell it. I just think it's ugly. Is that okay if everyone here has an opinion?

How is it "ugly" though? It may not appeal to some but it is not "ugly". In my opinion, with the exception of its SUV body, it resembles anything else in the Porsche family...

Still it sells/sold pretty good, doesn't it?
So i don't think they don't care about your opinion and focus more on CUSTOMER demands

Hmmm...The dictionary defines 'crus' as, "The section of the leg or hind limb between the knee and foot; shank."

I sure hope Porsche isn't doing that.

The best SUV on the planet is able to cruise at 85 MPH on battery alone? Not bad, not bad at all.

As heavy as it is, achieving 24 mpg in the city would be great. So, what's the expected hwy fuel consumption? 16mpg?

Still a heavy pig for boomers with too much cash.

Even though I dont find Porsche technology very promising, I must say that if they could really pull off this 85mph thing on battery, this car is definitely on my wish list...

But something else that I would be worrying about is how long would that battery last and how much does it cost to replace one..... last but not least... how long would one last?
