Bmw’s profits go down with almost 90 percent
Last year, net profits for BMW went down almost 90 percent but company heads claimed that the carmaker is in good health financially speaking. As it turned out the 89.5 percent drop in BMW’s profits, which was equivalent to 2.4 Billion Euros (2.24 Billion Pounds), is attributed to exceptional costs connected to bad debts, personal costs and provisions to cover risks on used car outlets.

The official statement from BMW is that the company earned 330 million Euros (303 Pounds) in profits last year. The bad news from BMW is just the latest from a string of bad news including Saab’s previous announcement that it was cutting around 750 jobs and Volkswagen’s prediction of a large drop in profits for this year. BMW is said to have been making improvements at the level of operation in spite of the global downturn. Through efforts within the BMW management they stand today in a financial position they assure is ‘solid.’

In any case, I am still glad to see that they are making a profit... They could be losing money...

Sad for BMW. Maybe they will go bankrupt.

Just as I predicted. BMW is a sinking ship. Chris Bangle and Karim Habib left while they could. They are smart chaps. Mercedes-Benz and Audi are in much better shape.

I am pretty sure Bangle didn't choose to leave. Well he may have chosen to leave vs getting fired, it looks better on your resume afterall.

WTF are you talking about? A good conditioned e46 still goes for 15k or more. The car is pretty much 10 years old.

Poor resale value is typical for Japanese pseudo luxury cars like Lexus and Infiniti, not BMW.

Yes, very true. BMW might go bankrupt and Toyota or Mercedes might have to bail them out.

BMW is in massive trouble. Maybe VAG or Toyota will bail them out.

Good thing Chis Bangle jumped from the sinking BMW ship.

How does that sayin' go again?..."The Bigger they are, the harder they fall"...Even though BMW still made a profit, the caliber BMW has set themselves does not balance the profit they barely made. With 2 big gunners...Bangle and Habib jumping ship...now cutting back on quality of materials, cutting corners on production methods. The tides may turn on BMW just a little bit...but that's enough for MB and Audi to take the lead in the German War Games...and for the rest of their rivals they con't to watch these German brands beat each other up to their own game, which give them too a piece of the luxury market for the long term. Wether you like it or not German fanboys, this is simple business practice turning sour. As for BMW they put all their eggs in one basket, now watch them "CRACK" one after the other...I honestly hope they find a solution to the problem.

"I honestly hope they find a solution to the problem"

What's that problem again? BMW continues to make profit even in hard times such as these. Making less profit when the market is down hardly constitutes a reason for concern. It's called logic.

Good point BigShow50. The bigger they are, the harder they will fall. BMW is falling hard. That is why Chris Bangle has left the sinking ship. He is a smart fellow. He knew BMW profits were going to take a nose dive.

Hey Star,...if you were in the C.E.O.'s position, I guarantee you will not be singing the same tune, quit being narrow minded. Just to start CEOs' will be having nightmares on how you have to answer to their board of directors, as to why VW Corp(Audi) post "true-profits" in these hard times, and why not BMW in comparison?...so in their eyes it's called "business failure"...in your eyes it's more so simple choice of brand...or let's say an aquired taste just like any other narrow minded German fanboy in this forum...which truly does not solve BMW's problem "when there is one"...now that my little friend is called logic.

There is always room for doing better of course. Still, like I sad before there is hardly any reason for concern at BMW headquarters. Their products are top notch and they still make profit. No drama!

The fact that Audi made more profit has to do a lot with the fact that Audi until recently was not as great of a player as BMW. Audi did play their card well just as Hyundai did but again, that has a lot to do with the fact that they were not considered major players until recently so it was easier to post most significant financial gains when their products became more competitive.

Now that is what's called logic, something you and the other Japanese fanatics should learn how to use properly.

lol seriously...
I love reading Autospies, but everytime I do...I see this guy: 'DocMarten' make a comment about BMW. All I see from DocMarten are comments about 'BWM 90% loss, BMW is a sinking ship' etc and followed on with a bunch of other bull$hit. You don't even post anything productive, but preach your hate towards BMW just to tell everyone Mercedes and Audi are better. Okay - they're better. Big deal! Like all industries - automotive, finance, internet, gaming consoles, soft drinks, all companies experience a time where 'when they go up; they must come down'.

BMW will sometimes be more successful than its rivals, Audi will sometimes take that spot, and so will Mercedes-Benz. Its a competitive rotation! Everyone knows that Audi has finally 'picked up its gam'e and now its moving up ahead of BMW AND Mercedes. Mercedes-Benz has also had a few problems in the past with regards to its 'quality' and 'image'. And now, BMW are experiencing some financial problems.

Your aggressive and degrading attitude towards BMW makes you look like you care about BMW more than an actual BMW fanboy does. Look at yourself - after clicking on 10 links; I've seen the same topics relating to BMW and maybe an additional sentence to encapsulate the actual topic being discussed.

Now, you can flame back at me, give me a whole page essay, say this and that; but bottom line...talk about something else! So what if Toyota or Merc buy/takeover BMW, it doesn't say anywhere that Toyota or Merc will last forever ;) You'd be surprised. =)
