Audi planning four-cylinder A8

The current Audi A8 has been on sale since 2003 and since that time has only received a minor facelift to keep it fresh alongside the Mercedes Benz S-Class, Lexus LS and recently revealed BMW 7-series.

The minor styling changes implemented during the recent facelift will have to soldier on for at least another year as the next-generation ‘D4’ A8, according to latest reports, is expected to arrive in the second half of next year as a 2011 model.

audi has diffrent engines for diffrent markets
they might have a 4 cyl in europe or china now

taxes in china are much higher if you have an engine over a 2.0

in Germany they have 10 engines for the A8 where we only have the V8, the W12 and the S8 V10

wait so you are saying Audi is making a 4 cyl to catch up with the LS?

Even if they were planing this engine they would never bring it to the USA They have a 2.8 in Germany and that car would never make it here

This is great, but the luxury buyers of America cannot stop associating luxury with more cylinders and more horsepower. Maybe a slightly positive result of this mess that the economy is in will be Americans rethinking their notions. Then all I need for Audi and Mercedes to do is import the 4- and 6-cylinder A8 and S-Class to America!

If they can make it 230+ hp then it wouldn't be such a big deal. But if they get lousy and offer a weaker engine than that, the car will be too slow for anyone to buy it! It's a good idea though since not everyone wants to go fast in their luxury car, but it will be a nightmare to drive on U-turns, Round-a-bouts, and so on because of the weak engine.

Basically an output of a "decent" 6 cylinder engine. And for the torque, it has to be turbocharged. Not impossible.

The base 2.8 A8 weighs 3750LBS and has 210hp and 280nm. The 2.0 TFSI has 211hp and 350nm, you do the math.

Are you retarded, the W12 model weighs 4400lbs. THe 2.8 V6 model weighs 3750LBS.
Do you really think Audi would put an n/a 4 cilinder engine in it? Only the A3 is still available with an n/a inline 4. The 2.0 TFSI engine has even more torque then the 3.2 V6.

And it won't be available in the US anyway.

4 cylinder A8 is crazy. Even the A8 3.2 we get here in middle east is very weak. A car that can hold 4, 6, 8, 10 and 12 cylinders, surely there will be many compromises.
