Jay Leno Thinks Chevy Volt Superior to Toyota Prius
Television superstar and host of the Tonight Show Jay Leno is well-known to be a car enthusiast. In fact he is an ardent fan of electric cars in general. Reuters had a chance to talk with him about his upcoming free concert in Detroit on April 7th, called the Comedy Stimulus Package. The reporter asked Jay about the Volt and shared this material with us here. It is not published anywhere else.

yeah, they're SOOO "average" that the camry LE at 77 gets more points on the ROAD TEST scores than the jetta, malibu, mazda 6, fusion SE, aura and G6. the camry hybrid gets 84, and the camry XLE gets 87 points. (the jetta TDI does get 85 points)

the lexus LS460L gets 99 points, more than ANY other car they road tested. more than the MB S-series, bmw 7, audi a8. (but the porsche 911S does come close at 96.)

these are all ROAD TEST scores. put in the RELIABILITY factor, and toyota/lexus products are in another dimension!

It's not even out and no one has even compared the two and he THINKS it's superior? LOL! These aren't even the same type of vehicles anyway. The Volt is a plug-in hybrid.

Exactly what I wanted to say.

Leno should stick to reviewing cars similar to the one he's in in the photo above.

The Volt is better, huh? Yeah, well.. So is the Batmobile, but the only difference is that Batmobile is already on it's 4th generation and GM will probably not have enough money to launch the $30k-$40k Volt... and yet, it's superior to the little Hybrid juggernaut (Prius). One has to wonder how much credibility the failed actor/ horrible stand up comedian/ talk show host really has, when it comes to cars. Look, I understand this guy collects antiques and purchases the best cars money can buy, but that's about it... Hell, Rappers and Basketball players do that all the time.

But do car magazines from all over call rappers and ask their opinion about new product development outside of the Escalade? Hell doctors and lawyers also purchase lambos and porsches but are they in the know as well? (that was a bias and stupid statement)

I don't think having a #1 rated talkshow, auto journal and all around car enthusiast is like being Doogie Housier. If you have had any time with Jay and his so called "car knowledge", then you would know he has not only a museum that he allows mostly anyone to visit mostly at any time, but has extensive working knowledge of automobiles, he builds and repairs almost ever vehicle he owns.
As a matter of fact, by choice, he is retiring to focus on his first love, cars. A success is having the ability to retire when you want and do what you want. That doesn't sound like a failure to me sourLemonade.

Why are you douschebags trying to make this guy out to be like the Bernanke of the auto industry? Gheez!

Jay's opinion counts, if you think it doesn't then you are a fool. Unlike most of you, Jay actually owns, drives, and maintains the cars that you people sit on the internet foaming at the mouth and pretending to be experts about. He probably owns more cars than all of you put together. I should listen to you instead? f.o.h.

Leno is going by design and tech. It is ignorant to think anyone could rate a car that isn't out. More than likely, he has seen and driven the car (yes he has it like that) and pushrod has a point. Most numbnuts on this sight have not even driven a Prius.

toyota has convinced everyone that the Prius is singlehandedly saving the world.

As interesting/advanced/reliable as the Prius is, it's a giant PR stunt that America has eaten.

Gotta ask why there isn't a gasoline-only prius, something like a turbo 1-liter with a 6 speed tranny. Oh yea, because if priced to truly reflect the costs of R&D/manufacturing, no one would buy the hybrid.

GM took a lesson from Toyota & Honda, and made a "whole new car" called the Volt. Gotta ask why they don't just have an e-flex version of the Cruze..... b/c GM has learned that we (consumers) need to have a whole new model for a whole new powertrain... otherwise it gets overlooked.

yeah, it's ALMOST as great a "PR stunt" as having everyone believe the unlimited "printing press greenbacks" have real value.

Let's be serious. The Volt is noting more than a plug-in hybrid that nobody is going to buy for the outrageous price the GM will ask. Furthermore it will not save GM since Americans aren't buying hybrids anymore. Nobody cares unless the price of gas is over $4.

At one point www.jaylenosgarage.com was SPONSORED by GM. He has done several concept cars with them as well. Of course he is getting paid (indirectly) to say this.

That doesn't make it less true. Wow just because someone has an opinion makes it less true with an affiliation? You are straight trippin and makes no sense. Can't possibly find a true reason for his opinion and it is just that, can't agree with him or disagree, so have to find a stupid made up reason. Pathetic and not substance. Find a real reason, not drink hateraide.

the new annual car issue of CR is out.

the ONLY hybrid that is more problematic than conventional vehicles, seems to be the SATURN hybrid.

given the volt is both a chevy and ANOTHER gm product, those inclined to hybrids will likely stay away in droves. the price will ensure they NOT gamble on it.

The Volt isn't even out yet. Anyone who made comments agreeing with Jay Leno is simply retarded. It is very well-known that Jay Leno is in with the bigwigs in Michigan. It made news recently that Jay was performing a free show in Michigan for laid-off auto workers. Jay Leno claiming this is no different than Bob Lutz claiming the same.
