Infiniti - 'We're hitting sales targets in Europe.'
Luxury car maker Infiniti says it is hitting European sales targets despite the slump in all car sales.

The company, which is Nissan's upmarket brand, launched in Europe late last year, and is coming to Britain later this year.

Many predicted that the financial downturn would hit Infiniti hard, but a company insider has denied this.

Infiniti is reported to have sold just over 700 cars across Europe so far, with the FX50 SUV, powered by a 5.0-litre V8 petrol, the best-selling model.

'Our sales predictions for the first year were always very modest, and we're comfortably hitting them,' said the insider. 'We don't have any concerns until 2010, when we hope the arrival of diesel engines and our new M saloon will give us a significant boost.'

The M saloon will be a rival for the BMW 5 Series.

Yes, this little kid "Star" is a child, jealous of Japanese brands and not confident in anything German, that is why he bashes Japanese brands every chance that he gets. We are all superior to this person, who is low class.

SmokeEm- I own two Japaese brands right now. So I guess you were wrong about that one. Nothing wrong with the Japaenese brands at all. You just have to keep them in context, they simply come from a different angle.

Agent009, he is just jealous of Japanese brands, plain and simple.

That is how insecure people act. He has to bash every chance that he gets because he is full of hate and rage. Typical child like behavior.

Agent009 "Sometimes I wonder about that boy...something just isn't quite right about him."

Who the f**k do you think you are TOOL to talk about me this way. The stuff I wipe from the back of my shoes has more personality and brains than you. Are you not suppose to moderate these forums instead of trolling?

The first post I made on this thread was a joke. You must be completely out of your mind if you took that post literally. 700 cars means pretty much zero when it comes to car sales not to mention that all those 700 buyers were probably Americans living in Europe. Writing 2 instead of 700 in my first post was just a way to diminish even more the "merits" of this POS Infiniti brand. Your reaction to that 009 shows again that your IQ is on par with that of DocMarten. I would fire your a** like yesterday for how badly you are doing your job.

Your reaction is over the top for a moderator. The only explanation is that after you were being called out by the members of these forums for failing to do your job, you thought long and hard and came to the conclusion that you should start bashing "Star" so you can gain some popularity with a few losers here. No moral standards agent009? Did you skipped those as well when doing the (agent)training?

Lighten up! Yes, you and the other mopeds that act like they are ready to kill when they hear somebody criticizing their favorite Japanese garbage brand. Is just cars. Yeah, just cars.

Now I will stop posting here so you and the other Japanese whores can continue to live undisturbed in your f****ing bubble. I will not accept to be insulted by some loser who thinks his moderator job gives him the right to do that. Have fun reading DocMarten posts...I mean post(singular) repeated over and over again...

Star- Who am I? I'm the one that can ban you at the click of a mouse.

But you know what, you do bring interesting points from time to time and make it interresting.

Just lighten up a bit, people say things about me all of the time. In this line of work you better learn to take it if you dish it out. The fact that I can take it, is evident by the fact your comment is still here. If I was worried about it you would be gone by now.

So a few words of advice... "get over it".

Sorry, but Infiniti does virtually nothing to achieve any significant sales in Europe.

Virtually any hybrid is more energy efficient than a comparable diesel car (I can prove that should anyone be interested) and scientific reports suggest Europe has too much diesels on the road. This renders production of diesel fuel 14% more energy consuming than production of petrol.

But since you can't explain all this to Europeans and they "know better", it seems there is no other way to penetrate European market other than going good diesel.

And Infiniti has those. Renault has been offering relatively smooth, not-that-clattery four and six pot common rail diesel engines equipped with particulate filters (FAP they call it) since ages. New generation of their V6 diesel is fully competitive with what German offer and maybe they've sorted out reliability problems.

Yet Infiniti haven't developed powertrains using those, especially mated with their 7-speed automatic gearbox. Without this, they stand no chance in Europe. They're simply loosing their competitive advantage.

Europeans are simply scared of fuel consumption of Infiniti's powerful but not frugal V6 and V8 petrol units and will not buy it.

4 things:

1. Infiniti is brand new to Europe
2. They have modest sales projections and are meeting them.
3. The big-petrol engined FX50 is their sales leader
4. Diesels are coming next year

— 222max:

"1. Infiniti is brand new to Europe"

Yes but they're not starting from scratch as a company. Nissan is well know in Europe and Renault is one of the strongest car makers there.

"2. They have modest sales projections and are meeting them."

The point of any car maker is to sell MANY cars, not to set a poor goal and to achieve it.

"3. The big-petrol engined FX50 is their sales leader"

And this only proves my point. 90% of BMW X5 sold in the UK are diesel, mostly 3.0 230HP one (source below). Think how marginal their sales have to be if the most popular car is something Europeans would virtually never buy so it does not reflect market demand at all.

FX50 returned 14,3 observed combined MPG in the Edmunds test. That's 16,5 l/100km of AVERAGE consumption. Tell it an European customer and you'll never see him again. BMW X5 3.0d with some 230 HP (which is enough in Europe, they're not horsepower freaks) returns 23,8 MPG. This is how you sell even expensive cars in the EU.

"4. Diesels are coming next year"

Well, why not immediately? Infiniti was making a lot of buzz in media and spent a lot on advertisement to have loud entrance. And... then potential customers went to their dealerships only to find out there was nothing inside they could actually buy. How pointless is that?

Your response to point #1 is irrelevant. Infiniti is marketing itself as a totally different brand from Nissan. If anything, they are downplaying their connection to Nissan and Renault. The fact is, the Infiniti brand has little to no recognition in Europe yet. This takes time to establish.

#2. The point is to sell to as many cars as possible UNDER THE CIRCUMSTANCES. Right now there is a recession and luxury sales are suffering the most. Plus, Infiniti doesn't even have the dealer network to sell in huge volume in Europe yet. Growth comes strategically, not all at once.

#3 You make it sound as if Europeans have no idea what sort of fuel consumption the V8 in the FX gets. Of course they do and they're buying the car anyway. You seem to think they're stupid over there.

#4 Perhaps they're waiting for the most cost effective product interval to introduce the diesels. You don't just plop an engine into a platform and voila!, everything works. It takes engineering to refine the end result. And did you completely miss the point that they set modest targets which they are meeting? That doesn't sound like people are showing up to the showrooms and not buying things.

Infiniti is making a measured and strategic entry into Europe. They haven't even started in Great Britain yet so that isn't even in the mix. It's a smart way to go. If they do things right at the start they will be on firmer footing for future growth.

The article doesn't mention it, but when they're referring to "Europe" they're actually referring to Russia. Infiniti is currently only being sold in Russia. There is a growing base of "new rich" classes in that market willing to spend on new and expensive products.

A nice spin on though, making readers believe that all of Europe is warming up to their cars. Not the case as far as I know since they're only being offered in Russia!

I am suprised that the FX50 is their best seller because the last time I was in europe everybody was looking at how many liters per 100 kilometer that was their main concern.Congrats to Infiniti I do like their g coupe and the M45

This is full of SPIN as their sales goals were around 8,000 a year. 700 is not even 10% of that.

Looks like the article was edited before it was posted online.

Ever been to Russia? They LOVE big ugly SUVs.

Does anyone on here read or just come here for news?
