Edmunds drives the 2010 BMW M3 by Brabham Racing
There’s a lot of intrigue surrounding this car, labeled the Brabham Racing BT92 by its creator, Michael Trick. You might remember Jack Brabham, the three-time Formula 1 driving champion, who had nothing to do with this car and is monumentally p.o.’ed (in the form of his sons, IMSA racing champion Geoff and ALMS racing champion David) at this co-opting of the family name by some German upstart. And BMW itself was a little miffed over this new company’s impetuous use of the BMW badge on one of its early Web sites, as if this were a BMW-certified project.

The BT92’s M3 engine has been upgraded to racing specification in almost every respect. The dimensions of the cylinders are now 93.3mm-by-80.2mm against the original 4.0-liter V8’s 92.0mm-by-75.2mm, yielding a displacement of 4.4 liters. A forged crankshaft has been carefully balanced and the camshaft profiles are new, while the cylinder heads have been machined for bigger valves and the pistons have been given a low-friction coating. Naturally, the all-new intake and exhaust systems have been optimized for more power, some 494 hp at 8,300 rpm and 354 pound-feet of torque at 5,700 rpm.

Better Than an M3?
For all that money and paint and fury and emotion, is the BT92 really better than an M3? Yes, it is. It freakin’ well better be. Fifty buyers total (that’s the production run for this limited edition) are bound to find this out, too. (click the link to see the rest of the article)

These exterior body treatments make the Lexus IS-F look..., well not overdone.

Why would that half-bakedmobile even cross your mind after looking at this ass kicking M3? This car looks like it would give the very cool AMG Black a serious run.

This car looks incredible and the car lives up to the promise of the outgoing exterior.

This Brahmaputra Racing company... they are idiots. What were they thinking? Their supercar M3, which still looks like a M3, costs 310.000 USD!

Well, let's see what we can have for 310.000 USD.

1. Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano
2. Lamborghini Gallardo LP-something or another
3. Aston Matrin DBS
4. Ferrari 612 Scaglietti
5. Toyota Camry Hybrid.

So I'm sorry, but if you by mistake have money to afford a supercar, why not buying something that actually looks like one!

Sometimes it's not about the looks but the performance. Example is the GT-R. It has no Super car looks but it's mighty quick. It doesn't have the bells and whistles of an Italian, German, or British supercar but gets the job done. Of course any super car buyer wants the sounds and style that comes with a fast car.

The M3 is cool looking but it is definitely not worth that price tag, no matter how exclusive it is. For that money I would much rather get the ultra exclusive SL Black Series, at least it's factory styled not an aftermarket company.

It's faster, and more exclusive, as well as coming from a true racing firm with an incredible heritage in Formula 1 among other racing series. This car will very likely be quicker than all of the cars you mention as their goal is to unseat the Viper and take the record around the Ring. Coming from Brabham they will surely do it.

What you don't realize is that the buyers in this market don't have to pick one or the other. We buy all of them that we want. The BT92 will look great several spots down from the Stradale Challenge car in the underground garage.

Wow, only a mentally insane person would pay this much for a BMW. It looks like German Rice.

Rice?! Ouch, that is the lowest blow you could possibly make. Take it back.

Would you prefer German Kraut? Do you honestly think this is worth $310,000? Would you really pick this over a Gallardo LP560-4 or F430 Scuderia?

The BT92 will be a great addition to the other cars. Why is it one or the other with you?

0-60 in 3.9 seconds for 310,000 dollars-no thanks. Buy a GT-R which is not only faster and offers better handling, but will save you $ 230,000. Shit, I'd buy a Gallardo LP-560 with the change. Only brand whore Krautaholics will cream themselves over this. It really doesn't make sense.

Nice, but not 300k nice.......is it even really that different? I could buy an M3 and duplicate the looks and performance for around 10-15k, if that. Clearly this is aimed at more collector buyers, if you're spending that kind of money it would be a little silly to get an M3.

Whoa!! The side profile is hideous! Looks like they handed the M3 to Dr. Jekyll and Hyde! Seriously, though, that is one funky looking M3. No way anyone would by that for 310K. Only someone like Jay Leno would buy one because he's a car collector. 50 units is kind of pushing it, though. It should be something like 5 units. I mean, c'mon, 310K???
The back of this thing looks like a ripoff from the Murcielago!
