We couldn’t be happier to hear this. According to CARandDRIVER Volkswagen has decided to ditch the “Rabbit” nameplate when the six-generation version of the hatchback arrives later this year. That’s right - the 2009 Volkswagen Golf will keep its original, worldwide successful name when it hits U.S. shores.

Jochen Sengpiehl, executive director of Volkswagen marketing said that the company is ditching the Rabbit bade for a second time and the six-generation “will be called the Golf again in North America.”

Why did they change it to the Rabbit in the first place? Apparently three-years ago Kerri Martin, director of brand innovation at the time, felt that names like the Beetle, Fox and Rabbit allow...

Frankly, in this day and age of adult toys, "rabbit" was NOT a good idea. Idiots. Kerri Martin should be found, dragged out into the street and then unceremoniously shot.

Thank god VWNA finally came to their senses. To market this car as a Rabbit with any expectation that it would generate more sales in the US is just ludicrous.
