BMW, Mercedes and VW not coming to the 2009 Tokyo Motor Show
It is has been confirmed that BMW, Mercedes-Benz and Volkswagen will not have a major participation at the Tokyo Motor Show this year. This will have huge impact on the show considering that the US Big Three has earlier confirmed that they will not be joining the show themselves. In the 2007 show the German automakers came up with some remarkable cars which included the VW Space Up! and BMW Concept 1-Series tii.

Porsche and Ferrari are the only non-Japanese car brands who have confirmed will be joining the show. JAMA, the organizer of the show, reported that there will be 122 companies will showcase their products, which is a reduction from the 241 companies for the 2007 show. Because of the pullouts from the show, it has been reduced from the original 17 days in 2007 to only 13 this year.

They are hurting that much that they won't be at one of the premier auto shows in the world?

I hope Toyota displays a new aero kit for the Camry.

Oh NO! Now the Japanese manufacturers will not have a close up view of the cars they want to copy!

You are being ridiculous. They don't need the cars in Tokyo or even in person for inspiration when they can see them online or in other countries. You act like the Japanese manufacturers can't buy a plane ticket or something.

"Inspiration"?! What they do is blatant copying and it is wrong. Sugar coating it with words like "inspiration" may help you sleep at night but make no mistake that you are talking about theft.

Yeah, I wouldn't want to bring my cars to the more successful auto groups during times like these. But hey' the Japanese will get to see Japanese cars.!. LOL

more successful autogroups? i coulnd't remember bmw asking the government for money, vw had a record year and i don't need to talk about porsche. these are hard times for everyone but face the facts, toyota and honda would give both of their balls to be in this position.

btw, what was the japanese economy growth this year? wasn't it -13%? this might be the answer why they decided to stay home.

100octane, they apparently made bargain like that long ago. How else could you explain the lack of said balls?

Just because the Tokyo show is not a major one is no reason to get nasty.
