Vw Golf VI GTD breaks cover

Vw Golf VI GTD breaks cover
As you may know already, on Monday we revealed you the fact that Volkswagen will present its new Golf GTD… and here it is! The new vehicle from the German manufacturer comes with a new front spoiler, a new front grille with the GTD logo, new side sills, a rear roof spoiler and a new rear bumper with integrated air diffuser and double-pipe exhaust system.

Also, the vehicle comes with a sport chassis and with a new set of 10-spoke 17-inch alloy wheels. Due to the fact that it is named GTD it has to come with a diesel-engine and the vehicle features the 2.0-liter TDI powerplant capable to develop 170 hp. The sprint from 0 to 100 km/h is made in just 8.1 seconds while the top speed achieved is 220 km/h. Also the fuel consumption dropped: 5.3 l/100 km and 139 g/km of CO2 emissions!

nice... comparing a Golf to a GS450h. Thanks for praising, if you will, the volkswagen. I'm sure they were not aiming at Lexus, but with you comparing a Golf to a GS, it means the Golf really is making a mark on Toyota/Lexus fanboys...

"Boy, these Europeans are stupid. They prefer their inefficient, slow and dirty diesels (most is still sold even without particulate filters) instead of experiencing clean hybrid thrust."

Us Europeans are stupid? Buddy, with that STUPID comment you just proved to us how friggin STUPID you are.

Oh, and you're STUPID for comparing a Lexus GS to this Golf GTD. That's so STUPID.

I hope you're happy, STUPID.

Want to compare that car to the Euro IS 220D that is an epic failure???
Didn't think so.

Eh, the IS220d is a mediocre car that was quickly put together by Lexus with no clear market strategy. The engine is borrowed from the Toyota Avensis, it's crude, loud and the gas mileage isn't anything impressive either. For a long time it wasn't available with a particulate filter. The IS220d has only 1/3 of the safety features of a Euro IS250, no automatic transmission option and poor resale value. The word "flop" comes to mind. Our magazines were very objective when testing the IS220d but the facts speak for themselves. Compared to its German rivals, the IS220d lacks appeal factor.

Right, let me deal with issues as i am British so by association {European}

Epic Idiot:
gCO2/KM is used to measure EMISSIONS not fuel economy and the fact that you made the same error on further comments (even your simplified ones) just exposes you as a simpleton.

The ECONOMY figures for the GOLF is 44.4mpg Combined and the GS450h 35mpg Combined*

We Europeans prefer nimble involving vehicles to plain White Kitchen Appliance with wheels type vehicles that Lexus Produce hence the dismal sales figures that Lexus have witnessed in the UK.

Next time you want to talk about Stupidity i suggest you compare the Performance and Emission figures of the BMW 335d Engines the New Audi 3.0TDI Engines and the Vehicles they are Placed in to the Useless Behemoths sold in the USA and ask yourself why you do not have powerplants that can compete with them (All round not only in Cities).

The NEW Lexus IS is a step in the right direction for Lexus with regards to the European Market but to say the 220d is giving the German Brands a run for their money is just Gordon Brown levels of Delusion. the 2.0L diesels from AUDI,MB & BMW are so superior that even Lexus Salesmen in the UK do not dare to compare their Avensis Rattler to them.

So all you Blowhards who claim to know about Lexus Conquests in the Eurozone even though it is clear your only source of info with regards to Cars is Autospies and you have never flown east of NY, Please give it a rest because you are so Transparent it is sad.

* Claimed Ecnomy figures. Yet not one European test has been able to verify it during a short or long term review.

You are not aware (or unwilling to know) that diesel and gasoline have different volumetric energy densities. Thus are incomparable directly. It's like comparing salaries in different currencies.

Meanwhile CO2 emissions are directly proportional to energy consumed by the car and should be used to assess real energy efficiency.

No. Fuel economy of those cars is as follows:

VW Jetta TDI DSG requires 12 barrels of crude oil to cover 15.000 miles.

Lexus GS450h requires 15 barrels of crude oil to cover 15.000 miles. 25% more. Only it has got
- twice the power
- is two classes larger
- is by a mile faster

You Europeans are head over heels in debt. Ireland and UK lead the pack. No wonder British pound had become so worthless.

MrBratwurst

Thank you for proving my point.

The pound is so worthless that each 100 GBP is equal to $142.5 USD. (www.xe.com)

In your eagerness to speak you have failed to think about the irony of your comment before posting.

How can you mention today's instantaneous GPB exchange rate in a discussion about value of the British Pound diminishing over time?

See the UK going bust and the GBP sinking in 5-year perspective (a bit more speaking than one single day, isn't it?):

This Golf is pretty kick ass. I've seen it in Red and wouldn't mine checking it out.

Sounds like the Audi-TT diesel in the GTI. But how do you hookup the tires on launch?
Our 09 Jetta TDI flashes the traction control light when you just breath on the gas pedal on dry pavement, and in the wet it still spins in 2nd (with the DSG Auto in Drive). Even my old '98 Beetle TDI, rated at 90 HP, would leave winged rice-rockets behind at the lights when you launched it right (after I tossed the stock Michelins for some sticky Yokohamas, it stretched and eventually broke the motor-mount bolts due to the torque).
The torque from the new diesels is getting to be a bit much. In fact, recent magazine reviews of the BMW 335d are the first ones that I've seen complaining that an engine has too much power!

BTW: for the hybrid fan-boys. Ever notice how all these comparison tests with a hybrid start with a vehicle with a fully-charged battery, yet there is no way to force the vehicle to charge the battery up at the end (which would make it fair, but use more fuel).
To be fair, you should let the gas/diesel driver start with a 4 gallon jug of fuel in the trunk that they can empty into the tank during the test. Its the same thing.

So you claim battery is somewhat fully charged.

| yet there is no way to force the vehicle to charge the
| battery up at the end

And a sentence below you claim it is not possible to do so.

Why you just don't say: "I'm a lying scumbag"?
