Another Shameless Chinese Copy: The S6 Clone of Lexus RX

These are the first photos of BYD Auto's newest proposal in the SUV / Crossover segment, the S6 that is bound to make its debut at next month's 2009 Shanghai Auto Show that runs from April 20 to 28. If you haven't noticed it already, the Chinese automaker's SUV looks remarkably similar to the previous generation Lexus RX350. Sure the S6 has a different grille and revised headlamps / tail lights but unless your paycheck is coming from BYD Auto, few will disagree with us when we say that overall, its design shamelessly copies that of the RX350.

Star/Cappy: "Who would want to copy Lexus????"

Well, Chinese. Clearly there's no point in copying Germans since Chinese are already leapfrogged them as long as motoring of the future is concerned.

Here's the proof:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BYD_F3DM
A plugin hybrid that costs 22.000 USD, has an all electric range of 60 miles, an extended range of coupe hundred miles when long trips are needed and is as spacious as VW Jetta inside. Only you don't need to fill it up.

The car also fared well in a crash test:
http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=byd+f3+crash+test

What Germans have to offer? Nothing. They sunk billions of Euros in their dirty diesels (a lot of them still sells even without particulate filters) which require much more crude oil to be driven than any Japanese hybrid ever made.

Check out yourself:

An unreliable VW Jetta diesel automatic requires nearly 12 barrels of crude oil to run per year.
http://www.fueleconomy.gov/feg/2008car1tablef.jsp?id=25262

A reliable, much faster and one class larger Nissan Altima hybrid requires 10 barrels to be run per year.
http://www.fueleconomy.gov/feg/compx2008f.jsp?year=2009&make=Nissan&model=Altima%20Hybrid

And if you prefer domestic, there is the all new Ford Fusion Hybrid which is even better as a car than Altima. Only idiots will buy inferior and inefficient German technology that belongs to the past.

So Now Germans are desperately trying to get some of their cash back by permanently brainwashing mentally challenged Europeans that dirty and crude oil chewing clatter shitboxes are "ecological". And they're starting to cheat Americans as well.

I bet German car industry should stick to processing Bratwursts and Sauerkraut. That's the only product they offer which has some future ahead.

"Shameless" is right on. Check out http://video.hsus.org/?fr_story=3cd5ce39ab3f35cbde85e1b4121b06731d31f305 to see just how shameless they can be. It is a way to get some insight about the society that is stealing from your favorite brands. As members of the global community we all need to reward ethical and compassionate behavior and punish the lack of those qualities.

That's absolutely ridiculous. Its amazing to me how much product China sells globally despite this type of crap.

C'mon guys, RX is not an ugly car. It wouldn't be my first choice but it's far away from ugly.
Now, Honda Element - That's UGLY.

This kind of stuff makes me angry. I don't care who they copy, this is just plain wrong.

Actually it's not the Chinese' fault that they have cars that look more than 50% like the cars we are used to. The companies actually sell body panels of their models to the Chinese. I know this for a fact because I have contacts with manufacturers in China. All it takes is one guy from the Toyota camp to send over a mold of an RX and things will start mass producing. I'm not defending my motherland but it's for sure a shameless copy. However Toyota is guilty of that as well with the Lexus LS(which I do own). The long wheel base version has that Maybach styled rear seat, I wonder where they got that from?.

You think Lexus came up with the idea of having something like that without looking at Maybach first? Come on. I drive an LS to and from work everyday but give me a break. Lexus has known to be envious and is known to get ahead of themselves.

The clone is cloned. Is that the way to say it? So then, what is the cloned clone? At the end orignial again?

Oh my god. When the japs copy, its ok. Because all the better reliabilty stuff and so on... JD Power ... cupholder ... bla bla

But when the chinese copy, its bad? Oh well, it is a shame that the public argument varies in terms of who is copying.

Actually, is it copying? I did not see a Lexus badge on that thing / car.

How can anything the Chinese do be any more shameful than the copying GM does. Be it designs or engineering they steal everything from other companies, particularly Ford. If Ford develops new technology you can be assured GM will have it with in a year or two. GM doesn't have an original thought in the entire corporation.
