The arrogance continues: BMW takes a swipe at Audi

Uwe Ellinghaus, marketing director of BMW (UK) Ltd said, "Audi customers are closer in age to BMW owners but why should anybody buy a good copy if the genuine product is available?" He said he took Mercedes seriously, "but traditionally Mercedes customers are different to BMW buyers." As BMW barely acknowledges non-German competitors, that rather suggests BMW sees itself as being in a class of its own.

In the UK, BMW is doing extremely well, with expected sales this year of between 105,000 and 110,000 - a new record. The UK is the third largest market for BMW after Germany and the USA, and takes twice as many cars as the fourth largest market, Italy.

Doesn't VW Audi group sell more cars in Germany than BMW?

someone should aquaint the brass at BMW about the story of Icarus, you know, the boy who had wings made of wax by his father and then even though he was warned not to fly too close to the sun, he did it anyway, arrogantly, and fell to his death as the heat from the sun melted his wings.

that BMW has nothing else to lean on than it's own arrogance. Styling and interior design: they are loosing badly to Audi and to others. Technology: they are being shalacked by Mercedes, Audi, Lexus and Infiniti. Awards: has Audi lost ANY award this year. On top of it all Audi and MB rank as the #1 brands in Germany. How about Racing? does BMW win any race that it competes against REAL rivals (not in F1, not in GT, they are too scared to even attempt to enter the DTM). Anyone can win against Alfas and Skodas. Anyone purchasing a BMW must like throwing money out the window. It's not about being cheap or saving money, it's about having brains and not being brainwashed with all the arrogance.

The fact that he tried to dismiss Audi like that makes it clear that Audi has BMW running scared. For years, BMW was favored by enthusiasts in Germany, but today Audi has become the favored vehicle in every nice. And it's no wonder why- Audi offers more style, luxury and safety while giving up very little in usable performance to its BMW counterparts.
