Entire Acura line-up receives Top Safety Ratings from NHTSA and IIHS
Since the Auto Industry has existed for more than 100 years now, it is not a common occurrence that someone will come up with something that can be considered a first. Acura, however, has for the first time ever attained top scores in IIHS and NHTSA safety ratings remarkable both as a first and for safety of the car as well.

The last car to score at the top was the latest 2009 Acura TL. All of Acura’s cars are now certified as ‘Good’ (IIHS) and 5-star (NHSTA NCAP), both top scores possible in the US. But there is a footnote to this grand performance: Acura is not considered a full-line car manufacturer in league with BMW, Mercedes, Audi and Lexus. Acura has only five models which, considering the model lineup of the other carmakers, is nothing but just a drop in the bucket. But again, with the recent increase in the safety standards and regulations, Acura has showed itself to have the most technologically advanced cars in term of safety features.

Well, if you can't look good and sell cars, you might as well make them safe.

There is such a negative connotation towards Acura at this site that not even an accomplishment like this can be viewed positively, what a joke.

No dumbass, there is a negative connotation PERIOD with Acura. THey are ugly, underpowered, with old technology and did I mention ugly as sin.

Only the sorriest person would hump this brand right now.

Whatthe hell,
1) Looks are subjective and I think the car looks great in person, but takes a lousy picture.
2) The "over engineering" is exactly what got them this tremendous honor. And what's wrong with surround sound audio? Its received high marks from the audio industry. No sound insulation, then why did it recently achieve a 67 decibal reading at 70 mphs? Now the RL is a joke, I'll give you that.
3) Yeah X6 Xdrive 50i just rolls off the tongue...
4) NSX was a halo car and Motortrend called it the best sports car the world has eer produced when it was first roadtested. 275 units, please. How about 1940.
5) Basing a design off of a lesser model helps keep cost down. That's why Acura can offer vehicles that can compete with some of its German counterparts but at a lower price point. In fact the MDX won a comparison test against the ML, X5, and a host of others. Your Acura knowledge is obviously minimal at best.

Listen, you brought up the NSX not me. I was just correctly your error in reporting. We are a dual dealership and sell Acuras at one facility and right next door is Volvo and across the street is Infinite and Mercedes. I've driven them all and unlike you I driven them without the rosie colored glasses. Acura is easily as refined as the C Class or E Class, and more refined than Infinite. Volvo, unfortunately is not even close, although the new XC60 is pretty nice. In regards to the audio system, ELS is short for Elliot L. Scheiner. He's a grammy award winning, (6), music engineer who helped develope our panasonic system, ie. placement of speakers, channels for sound, etc. Its the calaboration that warrants the name ELS. Finally, we do "ride and drives" right before the car is released for sale. These events have the closest competitors there to experience firsthand. We drive one right after the other and I can assure you that interior NVH in the TL is on par or better than anything in its class. Checkout Edmunds insideline where they compared the TL to a Maxima. There they talk about how refined the TL truely is. Go to Motortrend where they drove the 2010 TL Sh awd with the manual trans. In that article it bested the 335i, 335xi, G37, and even the S4 Audi around the racetrack. There are many many others. If you have an opinion about the design fine your welcome to it, but your obvious disdain for Acura is clouding the facts. By the by, why is it Acura's fault that DVD A hasn't caught on?

Acura is understated and under-rated in many regards. Despite their horrific beak designs they are respectable cars on the inside. Their interiors are solid and contemporary.

3 series is nice, old people drive Mercedes though. You would be surprised however by how little average ladies know about cars. The only cars that say that strong enough are Maserati's, Aston's, Lamborghini's, Ferrari's...... In other words, the cars that cost more then a fully loaded luxury SUV.

Is it just me or the wrecked car looks better than a stock Acura?

I owned a 2002 BMW 330xi. Great car, which I sold in 2006 with about 50K. But my (now very old) 1991 Honda Accord EX sedan (stick) is still running perfectly while my 330 was making funky engine noises in cold weather in the last 18 months I owned. Took it to three different dealers (with video footage to explain the problem) and nobody was able to fix it.

The Acura TL's looks won't have me feeling the same passion as I do some BMWs and Audis, but then again I wouldn't mind owning one if it lives up to my current Honda's reliability. And we're about to have a child, so reading about safety ratings makes my ears perk up.

BTW, I love BMWs. Not big on Mercs--okay, maybe an exception for AMGs out of my price range: Saw a CLS63 AMG here in Seattle yesterday and gave it a quadruple-take as we drove by. :)

Autospies is turning into the equivalent of Us magazine in its postings sections. Reading postings here seems to suck the intelligence out of me. Hehe.

Oops, I take that back: It was a CL63 AMG (not CLS63). Stunning. And yes, off topic. Back to your regularly scheduled programming.

1)Both BMW and Benz make cars just as reliable as anything else out there!

2) It looks like Honda's new crash test centre is paying off!

If you look at rating in recent years Lexus is always leading but BMW, Benz are in the top 10 or 15. Acura is either mixed in there or actually BELOW them. Their quality is highly overrated on laurels set in the 1990s when they actually produced good cars.

I just thought, don't they have like 5 models? Compared to BMW or Benz who has 20 or so? So Acura should have all models, they only have 5.

What a piss poor brand
