New Audi coupe caught plus next generation A4 info

Groundbreaking design.

Audi has recently amazed the automotive industry by faithfully bringing every one of its car show concepts of the past two years into production fruition with relatively little change.

It is very uncommon for a car company to actually deliver on its lofty and ambitious car concepts. Audi has done so with the Le Mans (R9), the Pikes Peak (Q7), The Nuvolari (A5 Coupe), and recent Shooting Break (the forthcoming TT SportBack with RS body styling). In addition, Audi recently revealed 'close-to-production' concepts of the new Allroad and Q7 hybrid.

To suggest that bringing the Nuvolari into production is 'not breaking new ground' is confusing and plain wrong. It is absolutely groundbreaking to bring the Nuvolari out of a hypothetical concept and into showrooms relatively intact. This is a rare, admirable accomplishment.

As far as the pure looks of the Nuvolari/A5, they are groundbreaking in every respect. They represent a pure expression of Audi's bold yet uncluttered new design language, which has only partially been realized in the new A6 and A4. When the A5 is released in 2007, I predict it will be considered the most modern looking car in its class.

So yeah, the A5 is not a completely new design out of left field. Audi would never do such an idiotic move. Because of the recent evolutionary changes to Audi's latest models, the A5 will seem like a perfectly seamless progression. However, being based on the Nuvolari, it is actually the design the revolutionized the Audi look to begin with.

Brilliant.

It is Photoshop.

Just so everyone knows, the picture is a Photoshop. There are no images of any kind released to the general public that reveal the A5 design.

The Photoshop is based on the fact that the A5 will be the production version of the Nuvolari concept. The image is basically the Nuvolari concept car with traditional headlights (the concept boasted LED headlights) and a sunroof.

So please relax with the comments.

In any case, I do expect (and hope) that the A5 will look very close to the Nuvolari concept.

As you may know, the Nuvolari stunned audiences at the 2004 Geneva auto show for its gorgeous and groundbreaking new look. It was considered by many journalists as the most beautiful concept of the show. Now it'll be a reality. Sweet!

I meant to say the 2003 Geneva auto show.

This may sound strange, but the current A4 is actually based on the future A5...

What I mean os this:

- The 2003 Nuvolari was a design study for the future A4 coupe (eventually to be called the A5).

- The facelifted 2005 A4 introduced some of the design elements (but not all) from the Nuvolari as a way to migrate to the new A4/A5 design aesthetic.

- The 2007 A5 will be the full realization of the original Nuvolari concept. A year later, the redesigned A4 will follow in the same design direction.

So comments that the A5 'looks like a chopped A4' are, in a way, backwards! And hardly an insult. Actually, this A5 photoshop is vastly sleeker and more progressive looking than the current A4.

Anyway, with its flexible new platform (which can be support considerably different whell bases), state-of-the art longitudinal DSG transmissions, magnetic suspension, and FSI engine technology, expect the new A5 and A4 to become the most groundbreaking cars in their class. Both in terms of design and technology.

Looks hot, but looks almost like Nuvolari Concept which was hot too.
