New York Preview: GMC 2010 Terrain Prepares to Polarize
Controversial aesthetics aside, the 2010 Terrain looks to have the goods, including a new 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine on the base model that delivers 182 horsepower and 174 pound-feet of torque. Like its Chevy stablemate, this model is tipped to deliver 30 miles-per-gallon on the highway.

The four-banger features noise-canceling technology to mute undesirable sound characteristics and a driver-selectable Eco button that remaps the throttle responses, shift patterns, and torque converter lockup speed to improve fuel economy. The more powerful engine choice is a 3.0-liter direct-injection V6 engine that develops a healthy 264 horsepower and 222 pound-feet of torque.

GM says six-cylinder buyers can expect to achieve 17-mpg city and 24 on the highway. Interestingly, the noise-canceling circuitry is only included on the Terrains equipped with the 2.4-liter. Models are available in front- or all-wheel drive trim, and a six-speed automatic is the transmission no matter what engine (or how many driven wheels) you choose.

I'll take the Equinox
Everything behind the A-pillar looks good but the Volkswagen bumper doesn't look good on this GMC. The giant chrome bar above the grille is very ugly though. I guess they got the idea for the grill bars from the new Taurus.

why is GM still making SUV's.
have they learned anything from the last couple of months?

What a ignorant statement? Why, because people still purchase SUV's. Honda, Toyota, Hyundai, etc; makes mid size SUV's. Your statement is so blanket, that I'm sure you mean this looks like an large SUV that they have been making forever. Bottom line, they are profitable. GM's fault was short sighted in making their business case off a dying segment (large, gas guzzling SUV's). Look at the SUV market forecast then tell me if the midsize SUV market is dead.

inspirion7,

Don't waste your time on this fool. He said one of the key phrases that indicates his lack of auto-industry knowledge, just like the comment "GM makes cars no one wants to buy", or "GM is in this position because they forced people to buy SUVs & trucks" or "Toyota is doing great right now and GM isn't because Toyota has the Prius".

People like eric452 are feeble minded. If anything, it's the fact that GM is still selling a decent number of trucks/SUVs that has kept the company hanging on.

ok there is still a market for the car, but when gas hits $4-5's, i wonder how big the market will be for this car.

neutral,I think its the malibu, cobalt and aveo that have keep GM hanging on, I guess the arcadia too.

gas hit $4-5 a gallon because we LET oil jump to $145/barrel.

Its not the Cobalt or Aveo by any means... the Aveo is often sold for just over $10,000 and the Cobalt can be had for $15,000ish...

GM's sales right now are still strongly oriented towards the Silverado, since truck buyers are less able to hold off from buying since their businesses are reliant on their ability to get jobs done.

The Malibu is a great vehicle that is routinely bringing in much more money than the old Malibu, but civilian buyers are holding off on new sedan purchases. Having the media & government constantly talk smack about GM massively hurts sales too.

By the way, if the SUV market was dead, the we would have seen the demise of the Audi Q7 (gas guzzler) MB GL (gas guzzler) Lexus LX (gas guzzler) Infninti QX56 (gass guzzler) BMW X5/X6(gas guzzler). The point is, domestics are always seen as gass guzzlers, where the performance V8's running all over the world is seen as "progress." Stupid. A carbon footprint is the what it is no matter who makes it.

I don't know what to make of it, I don't dislike it but it reminds me of the way the current bodystyle Jeep Grand Cherokee was a big departure from the previous bodystyle. At first, people (including myself) weren't thrilled, but the newer styling took hold and people liked it.

This should be a great vehicle, hopefully things turn around and this sells well.

Oh for the love of God! GM is doing what it did in the 80s with these rebadging efforts. This GMC is ridiculous. GMC needs to be put down more than any other brand in the lineup. Pointless, I believe. I'm a self-confessed GM believer, but not blindly so. This is a collosal error in judgement and it will cost them dearly.
