Rendering Speculation: 2010 Ford Focus
Meet the most desirable family car ever! This striking machine is about to rewrite the hatchback rulebook, with a stunning combination of head-turning looks, driver appeal and up-to-the-minute technology. Say hello to Ford’s next-generation Focus.

Set to go on sale in 2010, the third generation of the family car will take the company’s brand values to the next level. It gets a dramatic new look that’s backed up by a range of hi-tech small- capacity turbocharged engines.

Ford gave the strongest hint of how its upcoming models will look when it revealed the Iosis Max at the Geneva Motor Show last month (see Issue 1,053). And it’s from this car that the new Focus takes much of its styling inspiration.

The hatch gets a sleek new front end, with a large lower grille and elongated headlights. Bold lines run from the edges of the grille to the A-pillars.

At the rear, there are further nods to the Iosis MAX, with a high tail, angular C-pillars and eye-catching lights. Chunky wheelarches and short
overhangs finish the look and give the newcomer a muscular stance. According to insiders, a panoramic glass roof will also be available. Inside, expect a toned-down version of the concept’s striking cabin, with a new centre console boasting an improved version of Ford’s Human Machine Interface control system. Options will include a reversing camera.

Under the skin is a fresh development of the current car’s chassis, so it’s unlikely the new model will grow much in size. Emphasis will be put on ride and refinement, without sacrificing the sharp steering and driver appeal for which the Focus has become famous.

It looks like the Cadillac hatchback with curves. The first thing that came to mind was MPV.

Ford has always had a great design language with its Euro models. What has made Ford one of the premiere and innovative companies is the freedom the designers have and how they are allowed to listen to the consumer. Europeans don't have the luxury of $2 per gallon for petrol. In the states, we like our larger vehicles because our open and expansive land require that we travel further so like large animals in larger areas, we have larger vehicles, and I see nothing at all wrong with that.

The point is, Europeans are taxed to hell and back for consumption of petrol and and again on their vehicles, so designers focus on getting the most out of a compact design. Designs in this segment is equal to or surpass larger more upline models offered by various manufactures.
Example: go check out the interior of Toyota's new Vanza. Nice, but look at the attention to detail and where quality is skipped. This is the flagship model of Toyota, but feels like, in some aspect, the Corolla/ Matrix sitting on the lot but they are priced some $20k less. Now look inside a MINI or BMW 135i, (I know the latter model is expensive but still an entry model none the less).

Small doesn't need to be seen as less here in the states. Hopefully Ford will change this.

Oh, inflation IS going to happen, no question about that. You can't barrow 3 Trillion dollars, and in essence print what you don't have, devalue the currency, and believe there is no consequence for doing something so... dumb. It is what it is and when it becomes increasingly difficult to get a loan for less than %9-15, everyone is going to be walking around scratching heads saying "what happened" must have been Bush and Cheney and big oil...

Whoa, this is a seriously nice little car. In a world clutte3red with ugly little Toyotas this is quite refreshing.
