2010 Cadillac SRX: "Lexus RX350-Beating Good"
Numbers are great, but what about when the SRX is actually matched up to the competition? Believe us when we say the SRX is a Lexus-beating vehicle. On virtually every front, the SRX matches the RX 350. Blow-for-blow, we were impressed on comfort, amenities, material quality, space and luxury, but what the Cadillac has and the Lexus doesn't is the attention of the driver.

This crossover actually handles. We'll even go so far as to say it's a Caddy that zigs and even zags.On the highway the vehicle is quiet, with the acoustic glass keeping road and wind noise to a minimum. While the transmission shifts are a bit lax (we're told by GM engineers it's still in calibration) but as a commuter, it's totally fine.

Nudge the gear lever into sport mode though and the shift points change, the rev limit bumps up and the car awakens. Throw it into a corner and it grips, the body roll is kept to a minimum, no buck and sway over uneven pavement. You can actually feel what the tires are doing.

Being like Acura's interior isn't a bad thing. I think they have one of the nicest interiors in the auto industry. And it also isn't a bad thing that it looks like the CTS interior because that's stylin!.

That is a really weird angle for a photograph of the truck.
Between this and the Lexus, I'd take neither. They are both unattractive in the front, in my opinion. The Mercedes GLK, which out of all of them could probably actually go off-road, would probably get my money.

The GLK is fine for its mini-GL stance. But M-B failed to make the GLK nice to look at. The SRX and RX are excellent examples of CUVs that aren't meant for any off-road work and don't make excused for it either. People who buy them don't care about dirt, rocks, trails, camping, wilderness, etc.; but they do care about being comfortable, driving dynamics, interior content, etc.

I like the GLK for what it is, but now how it looks. And exterior design is a huge selling point in this category.

I stand by my comment. I did not state any of that as fact, but as my opinion, which is a common problem that many others on this website have. I understand some find the GLK unattractive. I did too at first. That being said, why is it hard to understand that I find this Cadillac unattractive? The GLK looks good from a utilitarian, no-nonsense design perspective (in my humble opinion), and as I mentioned, my main reason for picking it over this is that the GLK could actually go off-roading if it wanted to. This Cadillac could not.

GLK? Driving down a dirt road is not off road. What kind of ground clearance does that thing have?

The SRX has always been a crappy vehicle so I hope that this new one can change that image.

My neighbor just bought one of the new RX350 it is a very unattractive vehicle plus he is already having some transmission problems with the RX. Maybe some teething because it is a new revision.

Haven't seen the Caddy in person but it looks great and if the last caddy I drove is any indication the caddy will be a far superior vehicle than the RX. However, I would agree t=with Anthony on this one the GLK is the one to choose even though it maybe touch more expensive when optioned.

Could you also please reveal it to me which manufacturer uses such lame and pitiful methods of black PR-ing other brands, by sending you here?

Well, it is obvious that by the facts that you post, you are incredibly biased, not what a real automotive enthusiast would do. Someone who loves cars would not care where they were built.

People would have to be out of their minds if they choose an SRX over the new Lexus RX. The last generation SRX is by far one of the worst vehicles Cadillac ever
produced.I would imagine some of those problems would be solved in the new version, but I would never take a chance on it. I have driven a GLK not long ago. It handles nice and feels very solid, but felt small inside and the materials and interior layout were not as nice as the Lexus.

This isn't 1910 anymore 1UAW. We have numerous laws and government agencies that monitor worker safety. And if you don't like your job or think it is dangerous, quit. At the end of the day, nobody should be entitled to the job. Sadly, your UAW comrades not only think they are entitled to a job, but they are also entitled to salaries and benefits far above what they are actually deserve to earn in the job market. You get compensation increases by working hard, standing out as a top performer, or getting more degrees (MBA, CFA, etc.), not by striking (ie not working) and picketing. While not entirely responsible for GM's current state, the UAW deserves to get kicked to the curb. Hard.

If I did not already have an American SUV I would go for this one. Everything about it screams luxury. Love the angles and body of this car. The interior to me is much better than audi, and BMW.

I would not go as far as saying it is better than Audi. Audi is known for the care and focus on interior design. That said, I really like the SRX and not like many, love the previous SRX especially the last models with new interiors that had leather wrapped surfaces. The dials and gauges look pretty advanced for GM. That is one area I would be disappointed in. Good interiors but had plastic looking dials. This vehicle is very advanced for the segment and has changed the game.

Hand-cut-and-sewn coverings on the instrument panel and ambient lighting details convey a finely tailored cabin.” Highlights include a “pop-up” navigation screen with three-dimensional imaging; adaptive forward lighting that swivels the headlamps in synch with vehicle steering; power liftgate with adjustable height setting; integrated hard disc drive for audio storage and a dual-screen system for rear entertainment.

The SRX was also designed to meet European pedestrian protection standards; and the front bumper is positioned for greater compatibility with car bumpers.

In honing the integration and performance of the system, Cadillac engineers completed more than 600,000 miles of testing in all weather conditions across some of the most challenging roads in Europe, as well as test tracks in Italy and Spain and the famed Nürburgring circuit in Germany, where Cadillac has developed and validated new vehicle features in recent years. The result is an active, all-wheel-drive system specifically tuned for the SRX. It fully exploits the power of the vehicle’s new, 3.0L direct injected V-6 engine that delivers 265 horsepower (198 kW) at 6,950 rpm and 223 lb.-ft of torque (302 Nm) at 5,100 rpm.

To optimize traction at take-off, the system incorporates an innovative, pre-emptive engagement of the rear wheels. Unlike conventional all-wheel-drive systems, this system eliminates the need to detect front wheel slip before rear drive is activated and sets a new benchmark in all-wheel-drive performance.

The SRX all-wheel-drive hardware consists of a power take-off unit (PTU) in the front final-drive that transmits engine torque through a prop-shaft to the rear drive module (RDM) that includes a torque transfer device (TTD) and the optional eLSD. Both are wet, multi-plate clutch units from Haldex.

This system is the next best AWD to Audi by any car maker.

I would think that the SH-AWD from Honda is pretty damn good too, even more advanced in that it can vector torque to the outside wheel improving handling. FYI, the advanced detection you talked about has already been available on Hondas since the Pilot of quite a few years ago called VTM. No one has yet matched the torque vectoring system of SH-AWD. Audi and BMW tried but it's not up to par yet.

_43LE, the xDrive w/ DPC system in the X6 and upcoming X5 and X6 M models are more advanced than the Acura SH-AWD systems, as it actually performs both on AND off throttle. But it's not available currently on any of the "normal" cars, hopefully BMW sees fit to engineer it into all their next gen models.

I''m sure Lexus wouldn't share the same view you have. Cadillac, with every model is taking away slowly a vehicle from their stable. When I sold cars in my prior life, we would know who is new and what the competition had coming. Every new vehicle gets a bump because it is new and different. If this vehicle is priced competitively, and comes with various hybrid versions, not only will Lexus take notice, so will MB and BMW. It is ignorant to ignore a new model, especially if it gets good press out of the box.
The CTS has taken a lot of money off of Lexus table, most didn't see that coming.

I'll wait until I see it and drive it. But even if I like Audi, I sure wish this Caddy could steal some thunder from Lexus... Caddy has been on a roll lately and I hope it finally pays off and that consumers start to change their perception.
I truly despise Lexus and especially the RX, it is a piece of garbage, the fit and finish and built quality are atrocious. Any car, besides the Acura RDX, is better built than this souped up Camry. I have no doubt that the Caddy will be better too.

what's a shame is that Cadillac has been putting out some really great cars to compete with the Japanes/Germans, but now they're going to go bankrupt (trust me will happen soon...aka wagner firing who vehemently opposed and backing of warranties by govt)and people will not want to buy anything by GM for a while, hurting the company even more. They finally have cars that are worth buying and everyone will be afraid of them. Where were all of these inovative products 5-10 years ago. would have saved the company. Even Pontiac made a comeback. Too bad these cars will never see the production numbers they deserve.
