BMW X5 M and X6 M - German Pricing

BMW X5 M and X6 M - German Pricing
It looks our German friends are quick to release the pricing of the new BMW X5 M and X6 M, same as it happened with the Z4 shortly after the launch. As expect, their pricing jumps over the 100k mark, euros of course, with the more expensive BMW X6 M being valued at 108,500 euros.

The X5 M follows closely with a base price of 105,900 euros, making the “M twins” one of the most BMWs out there.

I still expect the U.S pricing to be in the $90,000 range, but we’ll find out next week.

One of their main competitors, the Porsche Cayenne Turbo S is priced at 133,970 euros, making the X6 M, at least on paper, a better buy. Turbo S outputs 550 horsepower.

Now i KNOW I will get tonnes of feedback on this statement, so let me preference by saying, I LOVE the X6. Some say its pointless, I say, I love niche vehicles if the company can mandate the model, more power to them. My point is, why isn't anyone complaining about the huge carbon footprint these models make? If this was a domestic V8 or so, it would be considered a demon spawn for the depths of hell. Explain.

I just don't understand people like you. Why is it ok for Mercedes to sell ML63's and G63's, for Porsche to sell Cayenne Turbo and Turbo S's, for Land Rover to sell their supercharged Range Rover, but it's NOT ok for BMW, who is known for making performance vehicles, to make something that competes? Please justify it for me, because I just don't get it. All of those vehicles I just mentioned cost MORE than either of these. All of them will likely perform WORSE than all of these. All of them are status symbols. Yet they're allowed to make money on a successful product, and BMW isn't allowed to compete because... because... why exactly? Because you're a "brand purist"? Because it "defies M philosophy"? Please. You need to get with the times. Porsche sells SUV's and is about to come out with a four door hatchback. That was practically sacrilege. And you know what? That SUV basically saved the company. That "brand purist" mentality is a great business plan for going out of business -- if you want to continue to grow and make money, you adapt. You build what people will buy. Make an M7. Make an M of whatever. Hell, see if the Panamera Turbo sells well -- if it does make an M of that new 5-Series GT, since the layout is virtually identical. If it will sell and make you money, build it. You want to be a better handling version of AMG? If that business plan makes sense, go for it.

"Purists" have their place but they're a tiny part of the buying public, and staying in business is much more important than satisfying them. I want BMW to stay in business so they'll keep building cars I myself will buy. The "purists" should too. Those folks don't have to like the X5 and X6 M. DON'T BUY IT if you don't. You don't have to like the X5/X6 M to appreciate an M3 or M5, or even a 335i or 750Li. All that matters is that enough OTHER people DO want to buy the X5 and X6 M. And based on the fact that Porsche, Benz, and Rover have successfully been able to sell their versions, at higher prices even, I think BMW will be ok. They'd have been insane not to throw their hat in the ring.

Sorry JRobUSC! I didn't mean to offend you. But in my opinion these cars just look horrendous. The offerings from MB and Porsche are executed better aesthetically than these BMW's. I believe M is about performance and no I'm not a so called purist. However, in these economic times, with gas prices the way they are, and the environment in shambles, i think it was somewhat of a irresponsible decision for BMW to throw in a whole new line of gas guzzlers. Yes they might be successful from a business stand point, but I don't see to many people buying these just yet. The fact that BMW is releasing these way after MB and Porsche have released their offerings, tells me BMW is lagging behind, or copying or imitationg or following market trends, perhaps good from a business point of view, but from a brand image point of view, no (at least not for me) I've always thought of BMW as a forerunner, the turbo charged engine in the 335i was a beautiful engine, powerful, quick, yet more fuel efficient than anything in its class. The V10 in the M5 and M6, excellent engines and cars, but these M variants of the X5 n X6 just don't appear innovative, more like marketing propaganda and do what everybody else is doing kinda products (which to me is unlike BMW, perhaps I'm being unrealistic but thats how i feel). i just feel like BMW could have invested more time and resources in something else than these. But you might be right JRob, I love BMW, my favorite cars since the age of 5 but lately i've been getting let down, i also hope that 5 series GT doesn't make into production. Perhaps I shouldn't have Rush Limbaugh'ed BWW like that, but its just a sign of my frustration.

Thanks

" but these M variants of the X5 n X6 just don't appear innovative, more like marketing propaganda and do what everybody else is doing kinda products"

This new M engine is the world’s first with a pulse-tuned exhaust manifold encompassing both rows of cylinders combined with high-performance twin-scroll twin turbo technology.

This configuration, patented by BMW M and known as Cylinder-bank Comprehensive Manifold (CCM), offers lightning-quick response, a linear build-up of engine power, and a broad, consistent torque curve by feeding each of the twin turbochargers with a “charge pulse” at approximately every 90 degrees of crankshaft rotation, rather than the more traditional “irregular schedule” of charging.

.....this sounds pretty inovative.

AWD system sounds so dynamic with torque vectoring, I would wonder if the next M5 could come with such a setup. Im happy BMW joined the super SUV party. Design-wise, I like the black trim on the "lesser" models, the M versions are looking a bit too monochromatic for me.

to 911gt2. i am well aware of the features, but the innovation should also be in the end result. This car will go faster, given! how about fuel consumption, emissions, build quality, reliability and other things. Innovation is not in coming up with new methods to achieve the same results. If a light sabre can only slice bread then it is useless (sorry for lack of a better comparison) It's still going to achieve the same thing its competition has already been doing, but a little differently. Like i said, I;m not bashing BMW but I do believe they could have come up with products far more exciting and worth while than these. that's just my opinion

That's hot looking, especially the rear end. Damn, that X6M spells machismo.

These cars will go into the hands of celebrities who will end up crashing them. At least it'll drive well.
