STUD Or DUD? Mini May Produce This Speedster

STUD Or DUD? Mini May Produce This Speedster
Our sources are telling us that BMW has quietly approved the much rumored MINI speedster that has been on the drawing boards since 2001.

The exclusive sketch above (drawn in 2001 as a proposed concept) illustrates the path MINI will likely take with this car. The car will likely have a fabric top (with an optional removable hard top) with two roll bars behind the occupants giving the car a sleek sporty look.

From this basic and preliminary sketch, I'd say stud. It would give Mini an exciting new product off an existing platform (ie cheap to produce).

The question is will the actual car look 99% like this sketch? Also will it be lighter then the Cooper S? Further Mini is pricing their cross-over in the low 30's. In my eyes that is too expensive for it's size. If Mini wants to sell this car they need to price in the Miata,Solstice catagory and no higher!

Looks studly, but I think a concept will tell the truth on this car.

A lot of downside to a Mini "speedster."

Stud. Everyone seems to love the whole Mini vibe and this looks like it will keep that streak going strong.

Stud or Dud it's the future of roadsters. Look at VW Bluesport roadster, and the Porsche throw back version of the speedster. Seems to be a hot trend of FUEL EFFECIENT, compact, stylish cars. You'll see these all come in electric, hybrid, and diesel varients. Think this also BMW's test mule for the project i future.

If it's "Mid-Engine" STUD

If it's All-Wheel Drive STUD

If it's Front Wheel Drive DUD

Gr8! But is BMW really thinking of producing both this cool lil' thing _and_ a good-looking Z2? If so, how will they relate to each other, price and customer-wise - one for women and one for men?!
