Lewis Hamilton contemplating to quit McLaren and even Formula 1
After the controversial occurrence at the Australian Grand Prix last week, Lewis Hamilton is contemplating to quit McLaren and even Formula One altogether.

According to reports, it was only Max Mosley, FIA president, who prevented Hamilton from making the ultimate decision, after the latter complained to the governing body expressing his utter frustration that his team has misled him over the incident. As previously reported, Hamilton was disqualified from the Melbourne ratings after the series stewards determined that he and McLaren’s Dave Ryan had intentionally misled them about a radio exchange that took place after he had allowed Toyota driver Jarno Trulli to pass him through safety car. Both Hamilton and Anthony, his father, were enraged that Hamilton’s image was smeared because of the event. Hamilton insists that he was misled and he apologized to his fans. The future of Hamilton with the McLaren team is still unclear as of yet, but there is a high possibility of him changing teams as a consequence of this.

I liked Hamilton. I supported him in 2007 and 2008, but after what he did last week, and the way he continues to handle the debacle this week I am no long a supported. The bottom line. He cheated. Now he's claiming that he was "mislead" by team leaders. Hoswash! He was told to lie about letting Truili by and he did. He wasn't man enough to say no then when he could have, if he had any integrity. Now he's blaming others, because he doesn't have a back-bone to admit what he did was wrong and takes responsibility for it. He has lost all credibility. He should quit F1. And if he doesn't, F1 should hand him a 1-year punishable ban. They can't let him do what he did and get away with impunity!

I disagree with the above comments. Although I am not a fan of Hamilton, following team orders is not that unusual even if he was not comfortable doing so. He wanted clarification and when he got that clarafication is when he found he had made a huge mistake taking the direction he was given.

"Yeah, if he leaves F1 now, he'll be forgotten pretty quickly. Just like Juan Pablo Montoya! Anyone remember him??? lol!"

Juan Pablo Montoya Didn't win a World Drivers Championship. Lewis Did, Which means that he will forever be remembered. Even if you don't like it. LOL!!!

More bad news for Mclaren-Mercedes.

But i think they deserve it. There are just cheating too much. Hamilton and new team principal Whitmarsh should resign for this incident. They have already kicked out their Sporting director, Dave Ryan, they should go to.

Agree with investor27

Mclaren just lie and cheat too much. In 2007 they cheated and got benefited from Ferrari technical information, but not only they cheated but also lied throughout that they don't know anything about it. Ron Denis refused it till the day he accepted and gave public apology.
When Max Mosley clearly said that if the team were honest they could have been less punished and got away easily. Same thing happened now, the team lied just for a position, 1 or 2 points more and not only that they made other team victim. There was no fault of Toyota but because of Mclaren, they not only lost their 3rd position but any point(classified 12th because of Mclaren lies).

The team's got no integrity. They should be punished well this time around. No more meaningless apologies.

What a waste of my time. Hamilton's not quitting! If Massa and Alonso can cry about stupid stuff, so can he.

Lanciafan.

You either watch F1 or shut up. It's you who know nothing and don't want to believe that your fancied team cheated. You r unnecessarily bringing Toyota into this. You r a fanboy not me.

When toyota or Ferrari or even Force India will cheat i will say the same, idiot.

Hamilton has "fans"? That's news to me. As I've said before, McLaren-MB cheated in the past and should have been banned from the sport. The longer they're still there, the longer they will find ways to cheat. McLaren-MB need to go and they can take their crybaby, aka Hamilton with them.

Candy ass F1 BS - more theatre than racing...of course, so is Indy and NASCAR...That's why I stick to ALMS/World Challenge racing...Accessible and not polluted by all the drama!

Last year I said it to my colleagues that the best thing that Hamilton could do was to move over to Ferrari. McLaren has always been a team that allows a lot of bullshit to go on. Anybody remember the days of Ayrton Senna?

Old sports saying "if you ain't cheatin' you ain't competin'" Everysports team pushes the envelope to gain an advantage ... hockey, football .. etc.

I don't know why Lewis gave the place back to Trulli since Trulli did slide off ... should not matter that the safety car was out -- he slid off and lost his spot

Has anyone here actually raced anything? Not as easy as watching TV !!

I like Hamilton but he has made a few rookie mistakes

Thank you, frasermanx. How many posts did it take to get to what REALLY happened. Third place should have been legally his. Trulli blew it under the safety car, which means Hamilton could and SHOULD legally pass him, which he did. His team failed to get him the proper clarification, telling him to let him past, and misguided him into lying after the race. A terrible situation for a driver to be in. Listen to the transcripts. His team let him down. Blame McLaren-Mercedes all you want. They have lied and cheated in the past and also this time. But don't hate a driver for being misguided...IMO. How about the Brawn cars? If the diffusers are found to be illegal do you hate Button and call him a cheat, or is it the team?
Just sayin',

It's the team's mechanics who put together the cars the best they can for racing day. It's not the drivers' perfunctory duties to know what's legal or illegal parts had been incorporated into his/her cars. The Button's case is different from the Hamilton's case. In the Hamilton's case, he lied to the stewards after the fact. He intentionally misled the stewards. He was told by the team over the radio to let Trulli by and he did. He was then told by the team to lie to the stewards by saying that the team never told him to let Trulli by and he did. He was told to tell a lie. He could have done the right thing by saying no. But he didn't.

You are correct, investor27. But have you never lied for your boss in order to keep your job? It's a tough spot, and young Hamilton got it wrong. His stock would be huge right now had he defied his team and told the truth. At some point he must have thought they'd get away with it. Poor judgement. Yet another stain on this team. What do you think will come of the diffuser situation, by the way???? I think FIA is going to strip Brawn and the others, thus making these first two races look really, really stupid.
