Review: BMW 750

Sometimes I can't help overhearing.

"See that," the guy at the Tim Horton's was saying to his girlfriend as he walked past and jabbed his thumb at the BMW. "That's the ultimate car."

There should be a certain point where the pinnacle of performance peaks against the ultimate in luxury. There should even be a point where those two qualities begin to conflict and cancel each other out, where taut performance becomes hampered by sumptuous styling and the trappings of comfort.

But somehow, I haven't found that point yet. At least, not in a BMW.

For 2006, BMW has refined its top-of-the-line 7 Series with refinements in both performance and amenities.

The new car takes its first step forward by taking a half-step back.

In 2002, this current generation 7 Series debuted to both acclaim and criticism, inevitable whenever a brand icon undergoes major changes.

Designer Chris Bangle's "flame styling" has been muted somewhat in the 2006 7 Series, returning classic BMW overtones mixed with a progressive new sense of style and a leaner look.

...like a broken record.

Reliability. You need to become a stamp collector, you are too predictable and boring to be a REAL car enthusiast.

"Representing over $600 billion in buying power, US gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender (GLBT) automotive consumers favor luxury and import brands according to Harris Interactive Auto(GLBT) a new market research from Harris Interactive's Automotive and Trasportation Research Practice."

"Gay and Lesbian consumers are becoming an important target market for US vehicle manufacturers, especially luxury brands," said Bryan Krulikowski, senior director of research, Harris Interactive. "Nearly three quarters (72%) of GLBT cosumers indicate they are more likely to consider purchasing a vehicle from a manufacturer that has specifically targeted automotive advertising to the GLBT community," said Krulikowski. He added, "Volkswagon, Subaru, Volvo, and BMW are perceived as the top brands that extend the greatest outreach to the GLBT community through their marketing communications."
