Fed Up? 76% Of Americans Say GM And Chrysler Need To Die
Americans are fed up with the Detroit drama.

Three out of four Americans would rather see General Motors and Chrysler face bankruptcy than watch the government pour yet another round of bailout cash into the big U.S. automakers, according to a CNN/Opinion Research poll released Thursday.

While 76% of survey respondents want to see the automakers face bankruptcy, 22% are willing to prop them up with more bailout cash, according to the poll, which surveyed 1,000 Americans from April 3-5.

You need to take a Statistics course. A sample size of 1000 is more than enough if the sample is truly random. Try this out:

GM can die for all I care, but Chrysler has a lot of potential (Only if they seal the deal with Fiat though).

I couldn't agree more. Sans the Corvette/Camaro franchise and Cadillac, GM can die. I think Chrysler has way more potential with it's cars, trucks, and offroad vehicles.

Can't say I am surprised. Americans are tired of supporting a company that refuses to run their company correctly and only attempts to improve when they are forced.

If American taxpayers gives money to car companies should get stock options in return. Ford stock $8/share 11/2007, $1/share 11/2008, today $4.24/share; in one year or two will likely be back to $8/share. Unfortunately Ford is asking for no money.

Thats why the US has lost its manufacturing base. But China has no problem making everything that the US and Japan used to make.

Chrysler is actually moving its customer call center back to the US.

I like how FritzLA doesn't understand the complex idea of a "global economy".

By the way Fritz, the vast majority of GM is in the USA/Canada. Get over yourself and do some research.

I cannot blame the people for losing faith in GM and Chrysler...

If they only make products that are not redundant (i.e 5 different versions on the Suburban, 15 SUVs using 5 brands) and make things that people wants...

As far as GM goes your right. There are too many redundant models. However there are some shinning stars in the portfolio. They just need to slim down to Chevy Cadillac,GMC and maybe Buick. Once they do this GM will make sense. As for Chrysler they have some bright stars as well.Chrysler 300,Dodge Charger,Dodge Challenger,Dodge Journey and of course the Minivans and last but not least Jeep. The rest of the product line stinks big time. That's why the Fiat merger makes sense. I believe GM should declare a structured bankruptsy if not for getting rid of it's stobborn Ass bondholders. As far as Chrysler is concerned I think the merger with Fiat should be allowed to take place. Further what steps is the Obama administration doing to force banks to start making car loans to people with 620 credit scores. Thats where 70% of the buying population resides.Perhaps if they could accomplish this feat then GM and Chrysler would not need to keep borrowing money.

Hmmmm I wonder what percentage of people aren't fed up, but just don't care enough to vote... I would care to wager that people who are fed up are more inclined to cast a vote on a tv poll.

Wow, someone who has a reasonable and logical viewpoint.

Well put, the media has a grand way of distorting reality.

Yes we should get rid of the last vestiges of large scale manufacturing in the US. All those engineers who design cars, design large scale manufacturing lines, the robotics etc... get rid of em. Shut these US car companies down. We can still have the screw the car together jobs that Japan or Germany will give us as we sink into a 3 world economy.

You apparently don't know jack about economics or business. A few tens of billions in LOANS vs the massive collapse of our last vestage of American industry.. to be sold to China/Middle Eastern interests.

We don't have enough money eh... but Iraq is OK, so is AIG, FannieMay, FreddieMac, Welfare, all sorts of other nonsense....

Let democracy run its course. Let consumers, voting with their spending dollars, decide which car company's do well. It's a wonderfully simple, and elegant system: Make stuff buyers want, and get rewarded by sales.

God bless America. And capitalism. And hot chicks and cars, while your at it ;-)
