2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8: first sketch and info revealed

2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8: first sketch and info revealed
As you may know already, the 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee was revealed last week at the New York Auto Show but this wasn’t the only surprise from Chrysler…

The American manufacturer revealed the first sketch of the 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8. We have to say it looks really impressive but what is very interesting is the 6.4-liter crate HEMI engine that will generate between 505-525 hp and 510 ft-lbs of torque (690 Nm). The new high performance SUV will also receive a new body kit, sportier suspension, and SRT 5-spoke wheels.

Beast of an SUV but it will never have the prestige, quality, and glory of it's former cousin, the ML63. =P.

So. If I like THIS car, what does that have to do with anything?

I beg to differ on the "prestige" element. Though the ML63 is nice. The overall exterior design isn't that fulfilling wrt to the kind power it's putting on the road. This sketch shows that the GC SRT8 not only is a monster, but looks like one as well.

It's definitely not a bad look but sketches and reality are two separate things. The ML first and foremost is a luxury SUV, whereas the Cherokee is not. The SRT8 and the ML63 can't be compared but both sound great when you open up the taps that we can both agree on. The ML has a more graceful design with smooth lines and the SRT8 is more boxy and edgy. Two different markets of buyers in my opinion.

I love the new Grand Cherokee, but this model I don't get, well I don't get the idea of any HP SUV. Hmm,lets see, let's make our SUV faster and handle better, but not as good as a car,now don't take of road, and don't drive it in bad weather. "I need the utility", great by an uncomprised HP wagon. these are dumb vehicles.

I used my X5 to haul material when I flipped houses when the market supported such. My X5 handled just as good as a car! Why cant an SUV be fun? Wagons are got soccer moms!

I have no problem with X5 I have a problem with X5-M. X5 are a great SUV that handle as well as most cars (not most BMW) an X5-M will never handle as well as M5 Touring and they suck in bad weather.

u think that bad weather handling has anything to do with oh i dunno, the summer street racing tires!? buy a set of snow tires and have your fun year round.

Lets not name call. Anyway, how is this design much different than the FX50? Might as well just drive an Infiniti, at least you get a Good Warranty!

Better than the Lifetime Powertrain Warranty that Jeep offers?

i'm surprised you have time to post, thought you would be at the dealership service department. (assuming you have a LR, I used to drive a 96 Disco)

I just hope it has noticeably improved fuel efficiency. The current Grand Cherokee SRT-8 gets something like 12 mpg, and that's if you're lucky. It's a shame, too, considering the Cherokee SRT-8 is one American made vehicle I would really love to own.
