Billboards War: BMW vs. Audi

Billboards War: BMW vs. Audi
Juggernaut Advertising, an independent advertising agency headquartered in Santa Monica, CA, has initiated a tactical outdoor marketing campaign on behalf of BMW of Santa Monica. The campaign is in response to Audi’s current billboards challenging BMW with the headline “Your move, BMW.”

Juggernaut Advertising’s creative work features the BMW M3 with the headline “Checkmate.” and is positioned prominently within the same sightline to westbound traffic as the Audi ad. Juggernaut approached BMW of Santa Monica after identifying a unique and immediate geographical opportunity along the highly trafficked Santa Monica Blvd. corridor between Beverly Hills and Santa Monica.

I was with a group of people this weekend and saw this add. Everyone in the car thought it was fantastic.

Since I have a new M3 I did feel a bit cool. :)

Nice advertising campaign. And no, I'm not an Audi-hater.

Very clever. And true.

Seriously, Audi at the moment has nothing that competes directly with the M3. The S4, which is available in Europe but won't hit U.S. showrooms until November or December, competes with the 335i, not the M3. The M3 will not face a rival offering from Audi until the RS4 and/or RS5 becomes available.

I wanna see them go back and forth some more. I'm picturing it now:
Audi replaces theirs with a rear shot of an A5, caption "Triple jump"
BMW replaces theirs with a profile view of an M3, caption "King me"
Audi puts up the A4 line, caption "Connect Four"
BMW puts up the new Z4 S-drive 35i, caption "Triple Word Score"
This could go on forever....

Well, you have to admit that this is a lot of fun, but BMW had to show a M3 to compete with a simple regular A4!?! Wow!
However Audi is going to answer, and I am sure it is going to be interesting.

I give that a "10" for BMW. I love both brands, but I agree Audi needs to take the ad down, or less likely respond. The best I can quickly come up with for Audi is something like "We don't play board games", while putting a shot of their new R8 V10 on a raceway (or perhaps "bored games" for a double meaning, depending on how in their face they want to be). Problem with the latter is BMWs are not boring in my opinion, although quite common, so I don't know if that would too much. At any rate, the local BMW definitely hit a home run with that one!

Oh, I get it. BMW thinks Audi is playing Chess. How original? Checkmate.... Great marketing. I love to see those marketing dollars at hard work for BMW. However, BMW, Audi isn't playing Chess with you. But all you have to do to see that is the sells in Europe. With the A4 outselling the 3 series and the 5 series. BMW better get a better move than Checkmate to save itself from being number two in sales globally. Oh, I can't stop laughing. How original!!!! Audi's reply is that it don't like Chess, its for Nerds. Audi likes Checkers, which reminds them of the checkered flags at ALMS and LeMans that they are the first to see. So, BMW you can go ahead and King them.

No one whines and cries the way Audi lamers do.

| But all you have to do to see that is the sells in Europe.

Sorry, lamer, but sales globally are more significant than sales locally (say, on one continent). Is it really that hard to comprehend?

| BMW better get a better move than Checkmate to save itself from

1 million for Audi, nearly 1.5 million for BMW. Mmmm, that only insignificant 50% advantage.

| Oh, I can't stop laughing. How original!!!!

Go get some consolation.

| Audi's reply is that it don't like Chess, its for Nerds.

Smart ones with high IQ can play chess.

Dumb ones can't. Sorry. The only excuse there's been left for them is "it's for nerds".

Why do Audi Lamers compares some ALMS or LeMans to Formula 1, the pinnacle of racing where Audi is absent?

| So, BMW you can go ahead and King them

Why should they degrade from professional over the top racing to some LeMans sandbox for little kids?

don't pay attention to the Bratworst. He is just like David969, whatte, truthpursuit, and that dude with the blue hair avatar,joe-lemon, but I think he just got booted out of this website; they have no clue what they are talking about. They are just here to stir up shitz and start flame wars. Their knowledge is limited to what they read in the press. I am sure that some are not even old enough to drive. And they probably never drove and probably owned the "precious" cars they talk about with such passion.
The worstBrat will tell you all about the numbers from 2008 worldwide between Audi and BMW but will fail to talk about the first 3 months of 09 numbers, he wants you to believe that Audi can not go race in Formula one. Why do you want to join that Circus? Well, the reason being is that there is no technologies that we can develop for F1 that could be used in the passengers vehicles that Audi sells. So it is just a waste of money.
I could go on but they are not really worth it, aren't they? But be careful in your comments or they will gang up on you! LOL

BMW clearly got the upper hand in this ad campaign. I bet the Audi folks are steamed. And I'd prefer a new Audi A4 over a BMW 3, BTW, and it has nothing to do with this ad campaign.

funnny they need a M3 to checkmate the A4. ahhahaha classic. Wait till the RS4 comes out theres no way this M3 will compete. Its wasnt better than the B7 RS4 and that beast came out in 2006. Orrr the RS5 then complete domination will be in full effect!!

Great response from BMW, but you have to admit that the Audi ad provoked it.
Now Audi needs to come up with something clever in response.
BTW: other than driving in show, I'd happily swap my twin-turbo A6 Quattro/6-spd for an M3. In a perfect world, I'd have an A6-TDI for long road-trips and an M3 for daily fun.

BMW not only made the message (Checkmate) very challenging but much more prominent also. The size of BMW hoarding is way bigger than Audi's. Have to do this for killing competition.

I would love to own a BMW but for now I would have to do with my Mahindra Renault Logan. It is among the 10 best cars not sold in USA. So, I am driving a car with a bit of a reputation. Too bad I am short of cash for buying the new version "Logan Edge connect" http://www.mahindrarenault.com .... Makes me feel nice though that I own a car that is among the 10 best cars that are not sold in USA.
