NEW YORK AUTO SHOW: 001 Picks His Top 5 From The Show- Is He right?

NEW YORK AUTO SHOW: 001 Picks His Top 5 From The Show- Is He right?
This was a New York Auto Show I'll never forget.

If you don't already know, I was ejected from the show floor about 3 hours into press days because we published the first SPY shots of the Acura ZDX uncovered and Acura complained.

AutoSpies.com World Exclusive On The Acura ZDX

But as it always does for a '00', it ended up being the best thing that could have happened to me and AutoSpies.com.

Because Acura and the New York show PR guy Chris Sams, ended up looking like idiots for their bush league antics.

Plus, we've gotten more traffic to the site than ever before and hundreds of sites picked up the story and the majority of the commentary is in OUR favor.

Wish I could have been a fly on the wall when the Acura PR people had to give their report of the press reaction to the ZDX and the show to their Japanese superiors.

Plain and simple. NY Auto show security sucks and their PR team are small time goons.

And they BOTH owe AutoSpies.com an apology.

I thought the circus was at Madison Square Garden last week, not at the Javits center.

But I was wrong.

And the best part is the back story.

The people who got the spy shots of the car have reported to me that Acura had the ZDX TOTALLY uncovered the day before on the stand and were letting a couple photographers shoot photos of it!

And they're surprised the photos leaked out?

We may not be invited next year but this I will guarantee...we'll STILL have the photos for you with or without an invite.

Well, enough of talking about the 'situation', let's talk about the cars.

What were my best in show picks?

2009 New York Auto Show Best In Show

1. Mercedes E250 Bluetec- A REAL sized car with over 200hp and 369 ft. lbs. of torque that gets 43MPG. PLUS, the new safety tech on the E is best of breed. Not the sexiest car ever but it is what all mid size sedans should aspire to...
2. Porsche GT3- Simply the best Porsche 911 ever..till the next one comes
3. Fisker Karma Sunset- Hard to stop looking at it as I perused the show floor. Hope it makes it!
4. BMW X6M- BMW makes the hot looking X6 even hotter
5. Hyundai Equus- Trust us, it will come to the USA, WITHOUT the hood ornament

Take a look through our show photo gallery and tell me if you agree with my picks.

With that rear end on the Mercedes you have two Korean cars in your top five.

I think we should slide out that GT3 and move in the 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee.

It's a real breakthrough for the company, albeit, they may not be around to deliver this vehicle to the market.

Saw the BMW X6M on MotoGP yesterday. It looked good and agree with dhkss2002 E class looks very Korean from rear end and looks more like a sibling of Hyundai Equus above than the stunning S class.

My favorite pick of 001 is the GT3. It is quite possibly my favorite Porsche. I parked behind a silver one at the gym last week -- I love that rear wing and the center exhausts.

The Porsche engineers work wonders on their engines. If I were in the market for a Porsche (I'm not), I'd probably end up getting a 4S Cab (with some snow tires for the winter). But the GT3 is just such an amazing performer and looker it is my favorite.

I'm going to the NYAS on Thursday. I'm looking forward to seeing all of these cars in person.

"5. Hyundai Equus- Trust us, it will come to the USA, WITHOUT the hood ornament"

I hadn't noticed that hood ornament before. A "flying lady"? Seriously? I know on the heels of their success with the Genesis that Hyundai is aiming high with the Equus, but it's probably a good idea to refrain from pretending to be Rolls Royce.

Im probably one of the few that hope the Equus comes to the USA.

Interesting though, I figured since they kinda copied MB and BMW that they were going to just stretch the Genesis (in MB S-Class and BMW 7Series fashion).

I agree that the E250 should be one of the top 5 on that list. With the E350 starting at $51,000, how much do you think the 4-cylinder diesel E250 with the Korean look-a-like tail end will start at?

When looking at the new E the only thing that comes to mind is the new Sonata. Come to think of it, a Sonata wagon would be a nice addition.

X6M?........No. Unless your a Russian Mobster on Speed.....

And for the record- I LIKE the "flying lady". Thinking of putting one on my car.
Now for the REAL best in show...
1. Merc E63....much better than the standard "E" and OMG power.
2. Karma Sunset
3. Jeep Gran Cherokee (Is this thing really American made?)
4. 2010 Range Rover Sport...jury's still out on the beefy looking nose but hell it's got 510HP and a gorgeous interior.
5. The Equus...... and with the "flying lady" thank you very much...

Somebody here reviews submissions before they are posted, right? All of this "poor me" about the show is so tiresome. You are not blameless in the situation. On to the cars...
