Official: Aston Martin Rapide coming with a 470 bhp 6.0-liter V12 engine
It seems that the Aston Martin Rapide has moved into the final stages (finally!) of its development programme and the officials say that the debut will be made in late 2009 and it will hit the showrooms in early 2009. According to the official information, the new sedan will carry under the hood the 6.0-liter V12 engine, as we said in our previous report, capable to deliver 470 bhp and 600 Nm of torque. This engine will be connected to the highly responsive Touchtronic gearbox.

yes. Yes it is. It's not in the same ballpark, it's not in the same league, hell, it's not even the same sport.

yes it is......its way better looking than that.......now i have a problem with this car its a V12 its going to have 470hp with 443 ft lbs of torque. that sounds like a V12 out of the 90's.....with their reputation this car should be very close to 700 horses....GET YOUR GAME UP ASTON THATS NOT IMPRESSIVE POWER AT ALL

I hope you are joking. The Rapide along with it's DB9, DBS models are amongst the sexiest cars in the world. The Panamera is NOT better looking than the Rapide.

Anyways aside from the looks, I wish that V12 pumped out more horsepower, somewhere near 600hp. Sub 5.0 0-60 would be nice but it with 470 it would still hit 60 at around 5.5 I believe.

This has ALWAYS looked better than the Panamera from its inception. That pic above does NOTHING for the Rapide. Wait until production pics start showing up on the web with actual real-life backrounds. Sex on wheels.

Looks good. Although larger and more powerful, it has similar looks of Jag's XF model which is slowly winning me over. I know that the two companies are in different classes, but I believe that Aston Martin has allowed Jaguar to borrow to much of their styling. Competition is strong in this category and I hope Martin does this car right.

It is very disappointing to see a high end manufacturer like Aston Martin to come up with a v12 that only delivers 470 bhp when BMW can output 414 HP with a v8 from the M3, also other Brands like Mercedes, Audi and Lexus are innovating.it is just rubbish.

I hope they are wrong. Rapid should have, at least, 550 Hp to move that iron.

You mean the LF-A that isn't being built and doesn't exist in production form but has been testing on the ring for like 6 years?

Also it seems like many of you are stuck on the idea that more cylinders automatically mean more power, this isn't always true. We know nothing about the displacement or technologies of this V12 so judging it based on just the cylinder count is pretty silly. Also Aston's aren't really known to be power houses, they are drop dead sexy and smooth (a better daily driver than a Corvette but not as much of a terror at the track).

It sounds way underpowered for a large luxury sedan...

If Aston is going to put 470hp into this car, why not just put a V8?

No matter how much I really want to like the Panamera, this damn Rapide is a million times sexxxier. I might have to sell one of my first born to get one. I think it may be a little underpowered in the class considering that you have 600HP Benz V12's roaming the streets and Bently Flying Spurs everywhere not to mention that the Panamera will surely outperform the Aston's V12 with the turbo V8. That won't matter because the Aston is definitely a much better looking car. Time to play the Mega Millions

Forget about this idea of the car not havigng enough power: 470hp is enough in the real world and let's not forget that the more power for a specific engne capacity, the more stress on the engine and the greater the chance of mechanical issues and almost certainly lower component overall life. This is car is pure class.
