6 serious investors interested in Saab
No less than 27 parties were officially confirmed yesterday as being interested in taking over Saab, but it seems that only 6 of them are being taken seriously as potential buyers. As a recent report presented, the potential buyers include an individual investor, a consortium of Swedish companies and at least two private equity firms while none of them is confirmed to be a car producer. Starting with April, the company has been declared under bankruptcy protection, giving them the possibility to establish an agreement with the creditors for the outstanding loans within the next 3 months. We still don’t know if there is a dead line scheduled for the closure of the sales process.

It time for Saab to go back to its quirky roots and make an interesting car that people with money who dont want a BMW, Mercedes, Audi etc will buy.

I think Saab has the engineering to make it stand put from the crowd. It's been under GM too long. Saying that it was struggeling before GM bought it. However now that the've developed X-wheel drive at least they can sort out their handling issues. With proper investment perhaps Saab can become a decent car company again.

Saab is a brand with heritage. Its no surprise that there are interested buyers. All Saab needs is a lot of independence as a carmaker. It can now buy tech and engines from whoever it wishes. Including GM. With proper managemnt, it can survive in the future as a lower volume producer of automobiles competing with the sales volumes of Volvo, Seat, Skoda, Alfa, Peugeot, Citroen, etc.

I thought that Haldex came up with the X-wheel drive, and Saab is the only ones currently licensing to use it. How much money did Saab/GM throw at that one to exclusively sell a few thousand units with it? Looks like it's now being used on the Opel Insignia as well.
