Finally, the 3.2 V6 is gone from the A4. Audi needed to get rid of that engine in a hurry if it wanted to stay competitive in the acceleration and horsepower sweepstakes for the entry-level category. That 265 horsepower V6 was well below BMW's 300 horsepower inline 6, Infiniti's 300+ horsepower G37 and also Lexus' IS350.

"2010 Audi Model Change Points!!!"

Were four exclamation points really necessary for a basic update on Audi's 2010 line up? If the title was "Audi giving away 30 free R8's!!!!" I would understand, but this article? No way.

German Nut: that 3.2 V6 would be better compared to BMW's naturally aspirated 3.0 I6, rather than the twin turbo version. I have an A4 with 3.2 and while my car was at the dealer for the 15k service they gave me the 2.0T as a loaner car. The revving noise that the 4 cylinder makes reminded me of the cheap American rental car econo-boxes and although because of the turbo and when paired with manual trans, the car is more suitable for boy racers than its 3.2 liter version, the engine does make it sound and feel cheap. The A4 directly competes with the 3 series and eliminating the 6 cylinder option is a mistake in my opinion. I realize that one could opt for and S4 if they want a V6 but that's already A6 territory.

the s4 is going to be the more direct competitor to the 335. The 335 was designed to compete with the old s4.

Nice line up for the 4 A2 2.0 S4 RS4

This is because the new A8 will arrive. The upper S performance models lag the introduction of the standard one. I am sad to see the W12 gone as it is one of the sweetest and smoothest powerplants Audi developed.

the S8 will be back a year or 2 after the new A8

Now BMW fanboys can't say the 335i should compete with the Audi A4 3.2 instead of the S4 because there won't be an A4 3.2 anymore.

It is high time that BMW fans see that the 335i's true competitor is indeed the S4.

The 3.0T supercharged engine will not make it into the A4 because that will place the A4 3.0T too close in performance and price to the S4.

This certainly leaves WAY too large a whole in the A4 range.

Your options are now:

A) 210 horsepower turbo 4
B) 333 horsepower supercharged V6
C) Future RS4 with roughly 450 horsepower if it arrives in the U.S.

Which leaves out... the price difference between the 335i and the S4.

So what about the unfortunate guy that purchased the A4 3.2? Did they discontinue this car in a year? The resale value on the 3.2 will really be in the shitter after this.

no one bought a 3.2 A4 anyway

The car is good but there is not enough reason to go to that engine from the 2,0t

This is very odd, first they put the new valve-lift 3.2 in the new A5/A4, as but leave the non valve-lift 3.2 in the A6. Now they're dropping the 3.2 in the A4/A5(manual) and using the new 3.2 in the A6 (which is only on the front-track CVT, quattro A6 is 3.0 supercharged still, I assume).

Not too many people bought the 3.2 on the B7 A4, and maybe with the 2.0T A5 coming out 3.2 sales would have went down as well.

Dropping the VR6 3.2 in the TT and A3 is strange as well. Only TT powertrain is 2.0 S-tronic quattro I guess?

Haven't heard of anything new coming out besides the new A3 sedan but that's based on the new A3 which is still at least a year out.

Can't wait for the new D4 A8 & V10 R8, guess they're continuing the V8 R8 as well.

Interesting to say the least...

the 3.2 is not audi's best engine
the more they get rid of that engine the better
my uderstanding is that the Q7 3.6 could become a 3.0t and the S5 will change to the 3.0T also mid year

That small sports car market is not doing well the Z4, camen, and TT market needs help

I agree the 3.2 doesn't match up well but do they have something in mind to replace the 3.2? I also heard about the Q7 dropping the 3.6 in favor of the 3.0T but the facelift info didn't mention it.

That being said the 3.2 is a very solid engine and more than adequate IMO, I guess everyone is looking for more power.

yes the s4 will be priced at around the A4 3.2 range

I heard it will be a late intro for the 3.0t replacement for the 3.6 in the q7

i think there may be a huge price gap btwn a4/s4 audi has tended to overprice for last 5yrs or so. look at current s4 it can run hi 50's no way many are going to buy a 58k s4 vs a fully loaded 52k 335xi (which is crazy overpriced in my opinion vs. 42k g37/is350/c350 etc

No mention of diesels in the A4 for 2010 ? Maybe I have to wait until 2011 ?
Put the 3 litre diesel in an A4 Avant--and I will buy one.
