23k in taxes really isn't that much. I thought being in that tax bracket you would understand why cheap cars will sell well, no matter how they look or perform.

oh, another thing, I really have no idea where you live or your tax bracket... where I live if you make above 120,000 a year you end up losing half of it in taxes. yay Canada?

3,000,000/500,000=6 Are they only making $6 a car? Or is this before money made for loans and all that... or is this the profits from $6 form signing?

Wow - I see that I have some ignorant fellow BMW drivers on here Mike and what is up with India bashing ?
I did not know that all Indians are peasants - Watched Slumdog Millionaire too many times ?
The last time I checked, India had countless Billionaires on the Forbes List.

By the way, Tata made $3 Million on just sign-up/booking papers and what they made is worth a lot more in India due to the exchange rate of the Rupee vs the dollar.
TATA will make a lot of money, trust me, they make everything from Trucks to Industrial Generators to Soaps to Food to the World Famous Taj-Hotels(if anyone remembers Mumbai terrorist attacks) to Classy Tanishq Jewellery imported here in America under Tiffany's and whatever...

Compare this car to a scooter and for $2000 I remember my Dad getting a mountain bike. Hell, my laptop costs more than this car!

A car with an engine, wheels and seats at the price of a bicycle....THIS IS GREAT !
People who compare the Nano with regular cars, even the Yaris etc. which cost atleast 4 times as much, should be put in a Mental Asylum :-)

@BimmerMike46: Dude.. just dont generalize all Indians man.. I am an Indian.. and I drive an M3.. this car is not just about India.. do you really know - how many countries are ready to gobble up all Nanos produced.. and in fact - for the heck of it - Europe is ready to gobble up a whole lot..! You just cant digest the fact that an Indian company could make whole lot of significance in the world auto market! Not just because I am an Indian and Nano is Indian I support it.. you really gotta appreciate the fact that its a good deal!

Wow, i regularly browse this website and never have i come across such ignorance. Bashing Indians for what reason may I ask?
Just because the media portrays poverty stricken Indians you believe its true? If you are willing to believe what the media says Mike, i would carefully reconsider who deserves the bashing.
BMW fan? so am I, i have owned my fair share of them, in fact, i do drive one at the moment, Biased however, i am not.
I dont know what your going to have to do, but your going to have to live with the fact that TATA Motors, an indian company is going to make bilions for something no automotive manufacturer is willing to supply. Affordable cars. There is a huge,HUGE market for it.

Very well said darzav and I do believe that India's economy even though second only behind China has the capacity to overtake China in the future as India has a much younger population than China, a larger home market/export market ration than China and the all important fact that more than half of the population - around 1 billion people, which is more than the combined population of North America, Europe and Australia ( 3 continents ), understands and speaks English.

It is going to be a very interesting race in the next 10-20 years between these Titans!
Being in the financial services industry I would know.
Now all I need is an Indian wife who dances to Bollywood and Bhangra Music :-P

@Inline 6: For heavens sake, don't talk about Safety standards - not sure where you are from.. but the european safety standards are stringent than what we have in US.. and Nano Europa is compliant with all Emission and Safety Standards of EU - FYI! when someone can make a car of the same size - Smart for Two and iQ - why can't you digest the fact that someone can make the Nano as safe as the cars in the same category.. and I know about what I drive - heck I even know how to drive an M! :P

Tata is doing a really good thing. I've read some indepth articles on how much this Nano is impacting the average Indian. Some folks are trying to haul around a family of four on a "moped", and they are now able to buy a real vehicle for the first time. Its hard for folks in USA or Europe to appreciate the struggle most people face in the rest of the world. This Nano is very significant for those folks, believe me. I applaud Tata for this effort, of course they need to make money on it and they will. Hope they keep up the good work!

Inline6, I know that Nano is not built for American highways! It serves it purpose and wait for the crash ratings for Nano Europa before you can come to any conclusions!!
