Hyundai’s Genesis becoming a model lineup on its own, just like the Lexus
The Korean carmaker Hyundai began in the industry as a value brand without a line of up-market products, but it has demonstrated in the past few years that it could go up the ladder with efforts like the Azera and Veracruz.

With the introduction of the Genesis sub-brand, this became abundantly clear, showing that Hyundai is capable of doing full-blown luxury vehicles, with the Genesis ultimately becoming a model lineup on its own, just like the Lexus of Toyota. The carmaker didn’t want its dealers to cash out $5-10 million on new showrooms to sell a whole new brand; instead it opted to sell the Genesis at existing Hyundai dealership, but removed from the rest of the lineup models. Although the Genesis line is new at this time, it however holds a lot of potential.

Neither Lexus nor Hyundai will ever match the Europeans, they are just way too much ahead for anyone to consider them as competitors. Besides, Germans cars are just naturally superior in all aspects.

When did Lexus have little resources? Toyota is the largest car company in the world. Even when Lexus started Toyota was one of the largest car companies. I also don't know when Lexus has been different.

I will say I do like the new grille, but in this economy an American V8 Rear drive sedan at 1/3 this price is the better value.

This Genesis brand is bringing better designs than Lexus at the moment IMO.
Stick a Lexus logo on the hood and no one would complain.
Smart drivers know that Lexus was ridiculed back in the early 90s too and look where it has come...expect the Genesis(Hyundai) to do the same, maybe just quicker...a similar story like Samsung and LG giving the Japs like Sony and Panasonic a run for their money...

I personally would stick to Lexus and Sony though...Japanese tech is still superior, but not by much now...

Really, your going with Sony of all the Japanese brands. Not Hitachi or Panisonic, but Sony?

Lexus have a very unclear future....Genesis will steal a lot of customer from lexus but not to much from the German luxury car makers....Lexus is getting terrain but still, it have a long way to go before to reach the German in world wide sales, and now with Genesis, it will be almost imposible, at least, I belive that you won´t see that in this generation david969...also pay attention to the words of

very wise. Lexus is great but most of customers of German cars won´t swap to Lexus or Genesis but most of Lexus buyers will be very willing to try Genesis....in my case I still think that Lexus have the edge over most of the brands in relability, but I won´t change my Merc just for that and there are a lot of smart customers that do not feel that reliabilty is enough to change their brands, Audi, BMW, Mercedes or Jaguar, they are not sleping.

Lexus is the has been #1 in luxury car sales in the US for years. The Genesis will steal more sales from Toyota,Chrysler(300),and Buick than from any other company.

At least Hyundai and the Genesis have Toyota and Lexus respectively beat when it comes to design - by a mile.

The Genesis is not an original design at all. It uses styling cues from others. Park one next to a 7series.

One thing is for sure. Lexus wishes that they had the Hyundai designers. Cause the Current Lexus designs are nothing special.

There you go. Genesis could be the new brand name for Hyundai's luxury division. It only seems right.

Genesis sedan
Genesis coupe
Genesis Equus

?

The Genesis "sub brand" of Hyundai will bring one element Lexus is missing. It's spelled V-A-L-U-E. And, yes, their products will be competitive. Check out the Edmunds Inside Line comparo of the Genesis sedan to the Lexus GS350 or the Genesis Coupe to the Infiniti G37.

Those screaming from the rooftops about Hyundai's design being "better" than Lexus are simply off their rocker. Hyundai is blatantly ripping designs from BMW and Lexus for all of their new cars. Let's not forget that Lexus is still ridiculed to this day for lifting the most basic design cues from BMW. So Hyundai comes along and does the same thing to an even higher degree and all of the sudden they get praise? Sure. Just remember that all the sales that Hyundai are supposedly stealing from Lexus, they are also stealing from BMW and Mercedes.

Making Genesis their luxury marque would be a smooth move and help differentiate their customer base more. In other words, your Genesis sedan now becomes a $50K car!! I say go for it. It'll only make the other marques improve their game or get out of the way.
