SHANGHAI MOTOR SHOW: WARNING Objects On Your Monitor May Look Too Familiar

SHANGHAI MOTOR SHOW: WARNING Objects On Your Monitor May Look Too Familiar
Whoever said imitation is the sincerest form of flattery might want to think again.

As we all know the Shanghai Motor Show is not only the place for bonafide automotive debuts, but also it is the backdrop for carbon copy rip offs of western design.

Just how can you claim credit for something almost identical to a model just a few yards away?

That is beyond me but here are a few of the better examples of Chinese cloning.

I'm going to letyou take a look and tell us who the are copying, and did the improve the original or simply screw it all up?

B7FAN...the Shanghai Motor Show makes me wonder where all of the REAL gucci, prada, coach, nike, jordans, and many other mainstream and highend clothes and shoes come from. It's illegal to state that a product was made in Italy or wherever, when it was actually made in China. But, I'm sure it happens.

By the way, most of the Coach stuff is assembled in China. My wife has 2 bags that have it etched into the key fob.

And yet someone posted an article a few back asking if China was going to set the design trends of the future. How pray tell will they do that if they keep copying?

The japanese copied american factories after the war and look where they are now. The chinese have a "transfer of technology" agreement with major companies worldwide when they opened their market to western influence. This means that if a western company wants to set up shop in China, they would have to join forces with an existing company in China, which is by the way owned by the Chinese government, and manufacture everything as they would in their home country. Examples are Volkswagen and GM in the 1970s and 1980s.

Also, it has been common practice that major automakers sell their "old" previous models' molds to the Chinese joint venture companies. A few years back, I saw a Toyota Landcruiser 80 series made in China with a Mitsubishi 4 cylinder diesel engine.

Now the Rolls is to much. Its one thing to copy a BMW or MB, but a Rolls! Crazy! But I guess it makes more sense to copy what most cant afford. Why copy a Kia, or something cheap that practically anyone could have? Still crazy.

It just goes to show what a paper toger China is. They can't even think for themselves.

China is a country where if you protest the Government they arrest you and put you in a mental institution for rehabilitation.

Now we have this halfwit President in the USA that loves the commie lifestyle. He wants to take over every aspect of your life.

I may copy the experiment a woman and her family did. Try and buy things not made in China. It was not easy to do! The CLK clone is just sad. But a copy of the RR Phantom? Who would buy that besides my cousin saying "look at how much money I saved over a real Phantom"!

It is OK to put your people in prison for stupid things, but all the copies of real items that talented people designed is great! Great country they have there.

When have been in bed with China now even with the other half wit President. We owe them so much money the politicians are affraid to just say no. We should have never participate in the Olympics at all last year. China doesnt care cause everyone wants to make a buck there. I am trying my best not to sound rascist but this shit needs to end now. Tainted baby food, toys etc...

Its funny how some people here equates chinese auto companies to "China" or "Chinese people". Just because the auto companies make a few knockoffs does not mean that "China" cannot think of original plans. If a company is a reflection of the country, then every country has its faults...

bimmermike...

Thats besides the point. the point is, you cannot characterize a nation and its people by the companies that operates within it.

Thats like saying that Americans are a bunch of scandalous, financially unsound people, because it seems their financial institutions practices wasteful and unsound financial practices. Its simply not true.

One issue that comes to mind is the need for Americans to take back our industrial might. We lost thousand upon thousands of jobs that maintained a good standard of living for the middle class to China and many other nations. The workers that have gained jobs lost from America do not make a good living from these jobs work longer hours and still can't put much food on the table. While it may seam to be the theme in America to achieve higher education and become the CEO of your dream job lets face the fact that there are only so many "CEO" jobs and somewhere along the lines factory work is a good job for families starting out our that are already in college. The lost of many good paying manufacturing jobs over the last 2 decades or so has systematically lowered our standard of living in the US, I a trend we must reverse and reverse as quickly as possible.
