Photo Comparison: BMW X6 vs. Acura ZDX
After the Acura ZDX official launch at the New York Auto Show, many of the auto journalists began to compare the first Acura “SUV coupeish” vehicle to the already established BMW X6 Sports Activity Coupe. Of course, we jumped on the same bandwagon and wrote an article about the ZDX Concept as NOT being a major threat to BMW.

Sure, we might be call biased, fanboys, you name it, but we can certainly tell you that our assessment has not been affected by the love we carry for our lovely bimmers. Now of course, since you’re a tough crowd, you might not take our word for it, so we decided to give you a visual comparison between the two vehicles, from different angles.

I was at the NY Auto Show last week and saw both the ZDX and X6 M there.

The X6 is pointless in my book (if you want an SUV get an X5 or if you want a coupe get a 335xi or just get a 535xi), but the X6 M does look very aggressive and good.

I think the ZDX could best be described as awkward. It doesn't look sleek enough to be a coupe. Rather it reminded me of a jacked up hatchback.

On a side note, the Cadillac, BMW, Audi, and Mercedes stands were packed with people. The Acura stand was nearly deserted (as was Infiniti). I was there on a Thurs. afternoon.

I don't understand why people complain about how the X6 is "pointless" or "useless" - as if this is the only car that doesn't have a specific "useful" function. The "point" of it is that some people (like myself) like it. There's no "point" in having a corvette... but people still like them. There's no "point" in a Lexus as all since you can just buy a Toyota. People still like them.

sstainba, finally someone who makes sense in these discussions of the X6, thank you.

Except for the grille and the back end, I'd take the Acura.

The X6 actually grew on me.. I never used to like that exterior design.. but apparently now it is a trend-setter and o'boy I like it much better.. ZDX appears to be more of a cheap copy of the X6 (though they may have started dev in parallel to X6) and I hate the shield-grill of Acura to the core!

Neither.

I'll take the SUV that originated the trend, the Pontiac Aztek.

they don't look like they'd serve the same purpose. The X6 looks like a tank -- just super aggressive, "look at me... now get out of my way or I'll run you over". Love it or hate it, it looks "tough". The ZDX... I'm not even sure how to describe it. It looks more like Acura's attempt to create a CLS than an X6, while succeeding at neither. It just looks like a tall Prius with an even bigger ass. But for someone looking for something more car-like than an X6, I guess it would fit that bill.

Have we confused automakers? Or are automakers confusing us? Do we want a suv with car like MPG? Or a car with some suv versatility?

It is funny to think that GM Daewoo of all people have a better design for this 'segment' than BMW or Acura (OK maybe Acura isn't that big of a surprise).

The Chevrolet T2X concept: http://www.conceptcarz.com/vehicle/z9252/Chevrolet-T2X.aspx

Actualy no surprise here GM as a few bright spots in its lineup one has to admit. I was compleately cuaght of guard by my 2008 Malibu (my wife did the research) it is just as capable and more pleasent to drive then my Corolla. My next lease may very well be a GM car depending on whatthe rest of the auto world has to offer. Sorry I am not tied down to one brand like most of the commenters on this site.

You guys are joking rite? The T2X has better design than X6 or even ZDX for that matter? LMAO!

Acura is lost in their designs. BMW keeps the X6 with style & grace.

What can I say? Good job Acura. The way it hides the back door handle really make it look like a coupe. BMW needs to learn or its X6 will be forgotten.
As usually interior is top-notch and beat European hand down. As other BMW products, X6 interior is still boring.
