Toyota Predicts Sales To Fall To A 31 Year Low for 2009
Toyota Motor Corp. expects its vehicle production in Japan to fall to the lowest in more than three decades this fiscal year, and below the level needed to maintain its full-time workforce, a report said Tuesday.

Toyota sees the production of 3 million vehicles as necessary to maintain its full-time work force in Japan of about 69,400. But its output is projected to be only 2.8 million units in the fiscal year through March 2010 -- which would be the first time below 3 million in 31 years, Japan's top-selling Yomiuri newspaper said.

The company will have difficulty maintaining all full-time workers and may need to make some cuts, the daily reported, though it quoted one unnamed executive as saying the company would not cut the workforce at the moment.

Toyota got greedy, and let the quality drop. Now, it's paying the price (although lowered quality is not the only reason for that). These executives are morons.

Greed is something foreign to the Japanese...it could be imported from the U.S.of A.,however.

Toyota will always and continue to be #1 in North America

VW is top in Europe where the combined markets dwarf NA market.

Euros don't care about reliability much so Toyota not so popular there... remember, they grew up with VWs, Fiats, Alfas, Peugeots, they don't know any better

"Toyota will always and continue to be #1 in North America"

- Only in sales. Which doesn't make the brand "#1" in my book.
And in regards to reliabilty? I'll gladly make the 1 extra trip to the dealer every 3 years if it means that I will have a car that isn't an appliance (like the Toyotas).

Europeans care about reliability, but they also care about their own workers and industry, so they don't let subsidized competition rape them, in some weird bonzo fantasy of "free markets," like the US does.

Wow..."coco-cock" is quite the narrow minded fool!!!...If you actually think outside the box of your pigeon brain. Japan will be one of the most powerful financial and technological countries in the world for the long term. There is the ups and downs, but at the end of the day Toyota/Lexus and rest of the automotive world will be able to stand back up and dust themselves off and keep moving forward with a smile. As for the quality crap "coco-cock" is talking about...direct that smack towards the U.S. Big 3 as they have alot on their plate and the Chinese bootlegging auto industry....what a fool!...LMFAO!!!

Who cares? Is there really a car out there that Toyota makes that we, Americans, can not live without? Come on. My step mother just bought a new camry. My father was begging her to buy a new Cadillac CTS. But she wanted a Camry because she had one 15 yrs ago and it was a good car. I drove it last night. What a piece of crap. The interior gaps and plastic are CHEAP! I mean CHEAP. Anyway I can go on for days on this one. My dad will not drive the car. He refuses to. He has a new Escalade and is "trying" to purchase a new Camaro. She could never figure out the nav system in the Camry so she went a bought a Garmin portable unit. Nice waste of money. Everytime my dad passes the Camry he calls it the "Devil Car" Oh by the way it has been to the shop numerous times already for issues. Wake up America!
