FED Plays Hard Ball With Chrysler, Demands Stakeholders Make Concessions

The White House is ramping up pressure on Chrysler LLC to reach crucial agreements with key stakeholders with just eight days left before the government's deadline for the automaker to secure deals or face bankruptcy and possibly liquidation.

The Obama administration's auto task force has been meeting separately this week with officials from Chrysler, its potential Italian partner Fiat SpA, Chrysler minority owner Daimler AG, and the United Auto Workers to pressure them to accept tough concessions and work out other terms that could pave the way to a new Chrysler.

The talks have included Chrysler CEO Robert Nardelli, UAW President Ron Gettelfinger and Fiat CEO Sergio Marchionne, as well as Ron Bloom, a Treasury Department adviser on autos who also works with the United Steelworkers and has been involved in numerous negotiations.

The money the American auto industry received in comparison to wall street is mere crumbs, but the scrutiny they are getting to make sure these crumbs are well spent is far less then the Billions upon Billions wall street paid out in bonuses to undeserving CEO's and management. If our government really cared about the money loaned out it should place Wall Street under a microscope along side the of auto industry. The media for a long time has had us brain washed to hate the Auto industry and to fell shame for them taking loans but one has to remember while the auto industry was not in the best of shape for the last decade or so it did not need money until the unregulated Wall Street "wild west" business tactics imploded the American economy and simultaneously hurting the auto industry in one blow.

don't forget, though, that our US auto industry has failed for years to build quality cars. instead, they built cheap cars using cheap parts and thought we would just bring them for repair. along with that, the UAW crippled their ability to spend money properly as each of the big 3 are still spending BILLIONS on retired workers. and for those reading this thinking how can i go after the union, read up and watch how they work. they are basically a modern day legal mafia.

@ wjackter,

yes, the auto industry should just dump all of its retirees and be an irresponsibley industry like the public in the good 'ol USA is clammoring for.

Your comment leads me to believe that you have very little first-hand experience with Detroit's auto industry.

This is coming from someone who is a white collar engineer.... so no "you and your union buddies are just upset" comments please.

So I have not commented on here for a while.... I as very frustrated before by 001 and 009 when they kept deleting my posts on cars and global warming and all of the environ"mental"ism. I said over 2 years ago on this site that all of you lefties would get what you wanted, (Control, Loss of Freedom and be made to drive shi*ty cars that no one wants!!). This is all a shell game for everyone to watch while something else completely different is going on behind closed doors. You are all being played like fiddles. Barry Obama is the anti-christ and people like him have the disease of liberalism or should I say progressivism. You all need to read the book American Progressivism and you will find out what Barry O. is really up to. So now all car companies and businesses are going to get want you all wanted..... Everyone one will be controlled by the government and everyone will be out of a job. I bet unemployment will go up to 12% this summer and 15% by the end of the year. But hey it is all in the name of BIG GOVERNMENT, BIG DEBT, BIG GREEN, BIG AS* ENERGY BILLS......

I have been reading posts by 001 lately and it looks like he has maybe seen the light..... Did you switch sides? Or are you still a Trans-Nationalist?
