GM Offers To GIVE Away Opel To Anyone That Has The Cash!

Troubled US carmaker General Motors is reportedly prepared to give away its German unit Opel to potential investors who would inject at least €500 million into its operation.

The Financial Times Deutschland said on Monday officials at GM would prefer to hand over Opel for nothing rather than transfer the money necessary to keep it afloat. This would also have the benefit of keeping GM as a minority shareholder in Opel, enabling the US carmaker to continue its close development and production with the Germans.

Buick wont be axed, they sell like hotcakes in China. They have already suggested that Pontiac will go away. I agree on GMC.

If they sell like hotcakes in China, why dont they sell the brand to a Chinese company? They are pretty much dead here. They could use the $$$ to inject into Chevrolet or Cadillac.

GM will not want to sell Buick to China because it is their only link to the chinese market. This will only happen if GM were to wind down operations as a result of complete bankruptcy.

Gm isn't giving opel away either, GM will be retaining a significant stake no matter what. Opel IS GM's european operations (80% at least) and Buick is massive in China. The last thing we should want for GM is for GM to cut off and divest itself from foreign markets.

Haven't we learned anything from Toyota? Gosh..
