Porsche Panamera to receive V6 engine! Hybrid version also in the works!
A horde of reports swamped auto enthusiasts last week with the latest Porsche Panamera since its spectacular introduction on the 94th story skyscraper in Shanghai.

At this present time, the four-door Panamera will only come in different V8 trims, but more economical powerplants, including a hybrid model, are due to be available soon. Porsche has an existing Cayenne SUV prototype that is equipped with a 3.0-liter V6 hybrid powerplant from Audi, and it would not be unusual if this unit will be found also powering the Panamera. Although Porsche purists may not like the idea, but the new Panamera will also be getting a regular V6 unit, which implies that the famous Porsche flat-six won’t probably be appearing in the new four-seater.

I heard that they're gonna put the flat six in the Panamera's trunk to give us purists that real Porsche feel

It's no surprise that Porsche is not putting the flat 6 into the Panamera. The Cayenne uses VW's V6 and the Panamera was partially developed from the Cayenne structure. I'm sure Porsche could have adapted the flat 6 to go in the front of of both cars but there may have been compromises to engine space and suspension that would have only been cost effective during development.Porsche could have also developed a V6 from the V8. However they probably figured it cost them less to slightly modify VW's V6 then to expend the extra cost to develop their own V6. Since Porsche and VW are now essentially married the sharing of components will probably increase. The difference will be in the tuning of engines and suspensions. The Porsche V8 can be justified because of the higher profit margins available versus a V6.No other car company has the understanding of profit margins more then Porsche. Why else would they be the most profitable car company in the world(even if car sales are down)
